Mountain West Center for Regional Studies
L.T. and J.T. Dee Visiting Scholar

Under a gift from the L.T. and J.T. Dee Foundation, the Mountain West Center for Regional Studies has funds available for bringing visiting scholars to the USU campus.

Amount of funding: Approximately $2000 per year is available, subject to changes in interest rates that could lower or raise this amount. We encourage faculty to seek additional funding from other sources to help pay for more expensive scholars.

Deadline: Requests for funds should be submitted by October 15, 2008, for funding for Spring Semester 2009. The decision on how to award funding will be made by the Mountain West Center Advisory Committee.

Eligibility : Any department or faculty member in the College of HASS may apply for these funds. All requests must include plans for at least one public presentation in addition to classroom visits or other activities by the visiting scholar.

How to Apply : Write a letter identifying the scholar you want to bring in and why, along with some preliminary recommendations of which classes/faculty might be interested in having a visit from the scholar. In the letter, outline the expected costs of the visit, and attach a copy of the proposed visitor's c.v. The proposal should include the signature of the applicant's department head indicating knowledge and approval of the proposal.

Preference will be given to proposals which shed light on some aspect of the Interior West. Collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches are also encouraged.

The Mountain West Center will work with the winning proposer's department on publicity and arrangements for the scholar's visit. The sponsoring faculty member is responsible for arranging classroom visits and should keep the Mountain West Center staff apprised of all plans.

All publicity should acknowledge the L.T. and J.T. Dee Foundation and the Mountain West Center for Regional Studies as funders.
