Constitution of U.S.U. Tae Kwon Do Club
- Article I ---- General
- Section 1. The official name of the organization shall be the
Utah State University Tae Kwon Do Club.
- Section 2. The club shall exist for the following purposes:
- A. To provide quality Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do training to the USU
community at affordable rates. This includes excellent instruction
in all aspects of traditional Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do, as a science, art
and physical/mental discipline.
- B. To provide quality training in self defense and self protection
to club members.
- C. To work with Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse (C.A.P.S.A)
for training seminars in womens/self protection for the USU Community.
- Section 3. The club shall operate as a non-profit organization.
- Section 4. The club shall abide by the applicable rules and policies
of Utah State University pertaining to student organizations.
- Section 5. The club shall abide by the applicable rules and policies
for Utah State University Campus Recreation Department in regard to Club
Sport Organizations.
- Article II --- Membership
- Section 1. Voting membership is open to all students, faculty, and
staff at Utah State University.
- Section 2. Members who are not currently enrolled students, staff or
faculty, must pay an additional quarterly dues for building maintainence
which goes to the HPER, and the fraction of non-USU members must be in
compliance with University policy.
- Section 3. Membership is open to all students without regard to race,
creed, color, sex, national origin, or handicap.
- Section 4. As with any physical activity members must be in good health
or have physicians approval to engage in Tae Kwon Do training. Members are
encouraged to consult with a physician before starting Tae Kwon Do training.
- Section 5. As the class is adult oriented younger members must have
aproval of the instructor and their parents/guardian before joining.
- Section 6. To become a member, one should watch a class, talk to the
instructor, fill out the university's liability waiver form, take a
few free classes, and then pay the quarterly dues.
- Section 7. Filling out the liability waiver form and paying the
quarterly dues makes one a member in good standing.
- Section 8. Members must also abide by and agree to the Rules and
Regulations.
- Section 9. Members must agree to only use the techniques taught in the
Club in self defense to protect one's life, family or country.
- Section 10. Categories of membership are: new members, affliate members,
ranking members, and officers.
- Section 11. New members are members without rank.
- Section 12. Affliate members have rank in another martial art and choose
to retain that rank without testing into our organization.
- Section 13. Ranking members have rank in our organization.
- Section 1.4 To remain a member in good standing one must continue to
pay quarterly dues.
- Section 14. In accordance with Section 4 and 5 a member can be removed
from the roll if they use the self defense techniques as a bully. If it
is discovered that someone has used techniques questionably they will meet
with the head instructor to assess the situation. If the infraction is
serious enough it will be brought before the officers and dealt with
accordingly. A serious infraction will expell a student from the club.
- Section 15. Members must also pledge to practice with care and saftey.
Students that are careless or do not follow saftey practices for their own
as well as their fellow students benifit, may be disciplined by the head
instructor. In the extreme case, such a person can be removed with approval
of the club officers.
- Article III -- Officers
- Section 1. Officers consist of the head instructor,
assistant instructors, public relations,
CSCO liason, and records officer.
- Section 2. The head instructor must be of at least 2nd Keup Brown Belt
rank in Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do, and have approval to teach.
He or She should also be currently certified
in community CPR and First Aid. The head instructor will be considered an
officer if they are a currently enrolled student or faculty advisor if they
are a non student. The
head instructor is responsible for overseeing all operations of the club
and to take care of teaching the membership in Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do.
As such, the head instructor is ussually the highest ranking member
of the club.
- Section 3. Assistant instructors must be of at least green belt rank.
and be currently enrolled student, staff or faculty at USU. Assistant
instructors are responsible for teaching/overseeing the instruction of
the membership when the head instructor is absent or at those times as
appointed by the head instructor. Assistant instructor's of higher rank
(Brown belt or higher) are encouraged to be certified in CPR and first aid.
- Section 4. Public relations, CSCO liason, or Records officers must
be currently enrolled students at USU.
- Section 5. Public relations officer takes care of creating/printing/
copying/distrubuting flyers and ads.
- Section 6. CSCO liason keeps in contact with CSCO, goes to the CSCO
meetings and takes care of required interaction with CSCO.
- Section 7. Records officer takes care of keeping track of attendance
and members address/phone etc. Depositing money into the club account at
Campus Recreations.
- Section 8. Officers are appointed by the head instructor. Ussually they
are chosen from the ranking members.
New members should not normally be considered to function as an officer.
- Section 9. Officers have their dues reduced depending on which office
they fill.
- Article IV --- Meetings
- Section 1. The bulk of the meetings are training periods as scheduled
with the HPER each quarter. Business meetings or parties can be scheduled
as needed. Also special training classes etc. will be scheduled by the
head instructor as needed.
- Section 2. Business meetings with the officers should be scheduled
at least once per quarter.
- Section 3. The head instructor is in charge of setting meeting times
and places.
- Section 4. Decisions brought before the club are made by simple majority
of the members in attendance.
- Article V ---- Financial Matters
- Section 1. The club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or
otherwise to its officers, instructors, or membership except as payment
for servides rendered in the form of wages, salaries, or incentives.
- Section 2. Should the organization dissolve leaving residual assets
the club will vote on how they should be distrubuted. Funds could be
divided among the membership, donated to CAPSA, or returned to Campus
Recreation. to purchase equipment.
- Section 3. Dues, test fees etc. will be paid to the "USU Tae Kwon Do Club"
and are deposited under the club's account at Campus Recreation.
- Section 4. Dues are collected to pay for expenses the club accrues:
Travel, parties, equipment/supplies, tournaments,
expenses
to bring Masters/instructors out for training, and to help with Black
Belt testing of club members. Much of how money is allocated is up to
the head instructor. Larger expenses should be consulted on, with the
officers and some expenses will be brought to the club for vote.
- Article VI --- By-Laws
- Section 1. By-Laws are set up by the head instructor and other officers;
to be enacted they must be approved by both the officers and a simple
majority of the attending membership.
