ENGINEERING STATE: WOMEN AND MINORITY STUDENT RECRUITMENT PROGRAM

Target Group: Women and minority students
Program Description: Each summer the College of Engineering hosts approximately 250 high school juniors on campus for 4 days to give them exposure to USU and the engineering programs. During the visit, students attend challenge sessions, which include hands-on activities with engineering projects. Women and minorities are actively recruited from Utah and Idaho high schools with preference given to those who might not otherwise qualify for participation. the goal is to attract at least 50% of participants as women and minorities.

MARTIN LUTHER KING FELLOWSHIP
(School of Graduate Studies)
Target Group" African-American graduate students
Program Description: This fellowship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Allen Stokes to assist deserving African-American students pursuing graduate studies at USU. Application is made to the School of Graduate Studies by matriculated students. The number of awards depends on the earnings of the endowment.

SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS

Target Group: Female Engineers
Program Description: The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a national society whose mission is to stimulate women to achieve full potentials in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity. The SWE student chapter at USU has more than 40 participants (both men and women) recruited from the freshman year on up. Members not only enjoy the association with each other but also enjoy various activities and service projects designed to support female students majoring in engineering. Each year student members attend the regional SWE conference and several members are selected to attend the national convention.

VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION COUNSELORS; MINORITY STUDENT RECRUITMENT
(College or Education and Human Services; Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation)
Target Group: Minorities and individuals with disabilities
Program Description: This nationally accredited master's degree program prepares individuals for careers as vocational rehabilitation counselors in public and private service agencies which assist individuals with disabilities.
