1. SOAR Dates - John Mortensen
The Office of Recruitment/Enrollment Services is sponsoring a Transfer
Student Bash on Friday, April 12. This day may end up taking the place of
orientation for many of these students. John will notify advisors when more
information becomes available. SOAR will be held on Tuesday, March 26 for
students who will begin attending classes in the summer. Below are the SOAR
dates for students who will begin attending classes in the fall. All
advising times are at 1:00 p.m.
Monday, June 10 (Transfer Students)
Thursday, June 13 (Two-Day)
Monday, June 17
Tuesday, June 18
Thursday, June 20
Friday, June 21
Monday, June 24
Wednesday, June 26
Thursday, June 27

2. Academic Advising Survey - Joan Kleinke
The only current University advising assessment is included in the
Graduating Student Survey and also a survey tive given to a random sample of
sophomores and juniors. These surveys are being revised. The old advising
questions will be replaced. Advisors were e-mailed a list of questions and
asked to send their feedback to John. John will forward those responses to
Joan. Suggestions from the group included: dividing questions into
categories, dividing advisor names into colleges, and making the survey much
shorter. Students with more than one advisor may only evaluate one of them.

3. Department Web Addresses - Wade Oliver
Wade passed around a sign-up sheet of department advising web sites. Wade
will make links from the Advising and Transition Services website to these
other sites.

4. Career Fair - Donna Crow
The Career Fair is March 13th. There are student host opportunities. Donna
passed around fliers for advisors to post in their offices.

5. Summer Credit Workshops - Danene Smith
This summer there will be approximately 60 workshops. For details, look in
summer schedule or on the web site at extension.usu.edu/confer.
Students may register for workshops through the normal registration
processes. To register for summer conferences, students must register at
Conference Services in Eccles Conference Center.

6. Tutor Advertiser/ARC website - Carol Rosenthal
Students who would like to provide tutoring services may advertise their
services at the ARC website. Students who want to hire a private tutor in a
particular subject may use the site to see tutor availability and costs.
Students must have earned at least a B+ in the class to advertise to be a
tutor.

7. Evening School Tution and Policies - Terry Robinson.
Evening school is a good option for out-of-state students who can't afford
out-of-state tuition. Terry may code any student as an Evening student if
all of their classes meet one of the following conditions: 1) taught after
3:30 pm, 2) distance education course, 3) independent study course, or 4)
online course (through Continuing Education. Students do not have to be
admitted to go to evening school, but DO have to be admitted if they are
applying for financial aid.

8. Change of Major and Automatic Repeats - Heidi Jo Beck
Heidi passed around a proposed new Change of Major form. Please e-mail any
comments to Heidi (heidi@cc.usu.edu). Heidi asked the advisors if they
would like the process of repeated courses to be automated. The advisors
are very much in favor of this. If implemented, another form would be
eliminated.

9. Freshmen Retention and Registration - Heidi Jo Beck
Recently, there has been a lot of discussion on how to improve freshmen
retention. One proposal is to give priority registration to freshman and
allow them to register the same day as seniors. Please send comments and
concerns to Heidi (heidi@cc.usu.edu).

10. Data Warehouse Workshop - John Mortensen
Rory Weaver will be conduct a workshop on using the Data Warehouse.
Benefits of using warehouse include: ability to download student e-mail
addresses, looking up student pictures, and better access away from campus.
John will notify advisors when the workshop will be taught.
