1. Data Warehouse-Rory Weaver
The Data Warehouse is a view-only system with the source data being the SIS
system. The data is updated daily. Rory gave a brief overview of some of
the different options available to advisors. To request access to the Data
Warehouse, go to the USU web page (www.usu.edu).
* select the Index tab at the top
* select the letter C
* select Chief Information Officer (CIO)
* select Administrative Systems/ERP
* select Data Warehouse Access - FERPA

This opens a PDF file that you may print out. Fill in the appropriate
information, obtain the required signatures, and send the request to Rory
Weaver. His UMC is located on the form.

2. SOAR Holds - John Mortensen
In order to ensure that new students receive Orientation AND Advising prior
to registering for their first semester at USU, the following procedure will
be followed, effective immediately.

When a student is admitted, Hold 91 will be added to Screen 148, which
indicates that orientation and advising is required. In order to have the
hold completely cleared, a student must have completed both the orientation
and advising requirements. Students who attend SOAR will have their
registration holds cleared by the SOAR Office and may register for classes
any time thereafter.

Students who meet with their advisor prior to SOAR will have satisfied the
advising part of the requirement. The advisor will indicate this by going
to screen 148 and typing in a comment, such as "Advising Completed - John
Mortensen 3/8/02." When the student purchases a SOAR packet, the
registration hold will be removed according to the following schedule:
* Transfer Students (30 or more credits) - immediately
* New Freshmen (out-of-state) - the first freshmen SOAR date.
* New Freshmen (in-state) - the day after the last SOAR date.

After the last SOAR date, the hold will be removed immediately if the
student has met with an advisor.

Students who purchase a SOAR packet, prior to meeting with an advisor, will
have their registration hold changed from Hold 91 to Hold 94, which
indicates that college or departmental advising is required. The advisor is
responsible for clearing Hold 94 after meeting with the student. The SOAR
Office will change Hold 91 to Hold 94 according to the following schedule:
* Transfer Students (30 or more credits) - immediately
* New Freshmen (out-of-state) - the first freshmen SOAR date.
* New Freshmen (in-state) - the day after the last SOAR date.
After the last SOAR date, Hold 91 will be changed to Hold 94 immediately
after a student purchases a SOAR packet.

We will no longer be using the SOAR Transfer Student Advising Form.
Advisors will need update access to screen 148. A list was passed around at
the meeting. Advisors who were not in attendance should e-mail John
(mort@cc.usu.edu) and give him your SIS Plus operator number. He will work
with the Registar's Office to make sure you have update access to this
screen.

3. Transfer Bash - John Mortensen
The Office of Recruitment/Enrollment Services is sponsoring a Transfer Bash
on Friday, April 12. There will be approximately 150 students in
attendance. About 25 percent of the students have not yet decided which
school they will be transferring to. Advisors should set aside 1:00 p.m. to
2:00 p.m. for advising these students. We will provide a list of students
and their intended majors to the advisors approximately two weeks in
advance. The students will be delivered to the individual advising offices.

4. Information from the Registrar's Office - Cindy Moulton
Cindy handed out the Summer 2002 and Fall 2002 calendars. Fee payment for
fall begins on April 29th. Cindy asked advisors for input on a new Change
of Major form. Advisors want boxes with choices indicating the reason for
changing major. They would also like a place to indicate the student's GPA
and a place to indicate the name of the new advisor. Advisors should
e-mail Heidi Beck (heidi@cc.usu.edu) with suggestions. Cindy handed out a
list of Evening Courses (3:30 p.m. or later) that will be offered in the
summer, as well as a list of Depth courses that will be taught during the
summer. The Depth courses are:

13151 Engl3040-001 (DHA)
12948 Engl3070-001 (DHA)
12949 Hist3070-001 (DHA)
12967 Span3600-001 (DHA)
14778 USU 3330-001 (DHA)
12762 Phyx3020-001 (DSC)
12344 BIS 3100-001 (DSS)
12408 Econ3400-001 (DSS)
12775 Psy 3210-001 (DSS)
12776 Psy 3510-001 (DSS)

Advisors expressed concern of the lack of offerings in Depth Life and
Physical Sciences.

5. Women's Leadership Class - Noelle Call
Noelle is recruiting students to take class who may not otherwise have
opportunities for leadership. Those with questions should contact Noelle
Call (noellec@cc.usu.edu) , Janet Osborne (josborne@cc.usu.edu), or Carol
Rosenthal (carolr@cc.usu.edu).

6. Finish In Four - John Mortensen
John handed out the latest version of the Finish In Four program. It is a
USU graduation guarantee plan. It is a contract between students and the
University, outlining the student's commitment and the University's
commitment. Participation in the program is optional, but it is hoped that
all departments will outline an eight-semester schedule that students may
follow to graduate within a four-year period. Programs that cannot be
completed in 8 semesters because of their requirements can still participate
in a similar contractual manner. An advisor will work with a student to lay
out a plan of study within an efficient time frame. John handed out a
four-year plan for Family and Consumer Sciences Education majors. Those who
participate in this program should follow this model and send their
information to John (UMC 0114).

7. Articulation Updates - John Mortensen
A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the Business
Building, Room 211. At this meeting we will hand out course-by-course
articulation agreements for departments to review and update. Collection of
articulation is a collaborative effort between the Office of Advising and
Transition Services (John Mortensen and Rachel Lewis) and the Registrar's
Office (Heidi Beck, Cindy Moulton, Krystin Deschamps, and Cara Allen).

8. CLEP Revisions
CLEP has gone to a computer-based testing system. In the process, some of
the exams have been revised. Departments have reviewed the exams and made
recommendations as to what credit should be granted for these exams. These
recommendations were forwarded to the General Education Subcommittee and the
Educational Policies Committee. Below is a summary of the changes.
Advisors should mark these changes on pages 43 and 44 in the 2001-2002
Advisor Handbook. Please note that scores with an "*" are subject to change
once more information is available about converting CLEP scores from the
paper-based tests to the computer-based tests.
