1. Success Curriculum-LaVell Saunders
There are 425 students in the Success Program this year, which is up from
313 students last year. The target for next year is 500 students. The
program will resemble this year's program. LaVell handed out a list of
classes that are only available to Success students. Contact Lavell
(lavells@cc.usu.edu), Noelle Call (noellec@cc.usu.edu), or Laird Hartman
(lairdh@ext.usu.edu) if you have any recommendations for courses to be
offered through the program. Please send your suggestions by the last week
of November.

2. Air Force ROTC Form 48-Paul Ermer
From 48 is used for record of cadet's academic plan, including required
courses for graduation and commission. The signature of an advisor is
required every fall. It is easiest to a use pencil. However, advisors
should use blue or black ink for their signatures. ROTC requires two
courses each semester, which students are aware of and should already by
listed on the form. Questions should be directed to: Paul Ermer at
797-8723, ermerp@hass.usu.edu.

3. Career Services and Advising-Peg Hennon, Dave Hart
Peg described the new Pinpoint computer program. The program is used to
match student interests with career possibilities. The program uses Holland
Codes and the Myers-Briggs profile. The software will provide students with
a ranking of 400 occupations. A demo version may be accessed at
www.acinet.org/acinet/. The software will be funded by the second tier
tuition increase for advising. Dave indicated support of collaborating
with advisors to make students aware of their services including testing,
career exploration, internships, cooperative education, and career
employment. Career Services is using an E-Recruiting program for students
to enter cover letters and resumes, and to submit applications for jobs.
Advisors are welcome to experiment with E-Recruiting by accessing the Career
Services website at www.usu.edu/career/. Advisors may use the username:
faculty, and the password: browse. One of Career Services' initiatives is to
provide training at various extension sites.

4. New Tuition Payment Plan - Heidi Beck
SPOT (Spreading Payments Over Time) is available for spring semester for 100
students. There are still 30 spots left. For fall semester 2002, a
10-payment program to be in place, with the first payment being due in June.
Students only need to be accepted to the University to signup for the
program. The cost is $50 up front, followed by electronic payments.
Information about the plan will be sent to students with their admission
letters. It was suggested that an information sheet be given to advisors
and that the program be mentioned to students who attend SOAR. More
information is available at: controller.usu.edu/tuition/.

5. Revised Philosophy of Advising Statement - John Mortensen
Advisors were sent a draft of the statement prior to the meeting. Two
additions were suggested and supported. Maureen Wagner suggested that the
following be added to the list of student responsibilities: Students are
responsible for updating their addresses and telephone numbers. Mary Lou
Reynolds also suggested that the language be changed on item h. for the
responsibilities of the departments and colleges. The language will change
from "Inform" to "Make information available."

ASUSU is reviewing the statement. Upon their acceptance, the statement will
be forwarded to the Academic Standards Subcommittee for their review.

The Responsibilities of the Student will be included in the New Student
Handbook and presented to the students at SOAR, just prior to sending them
to meet with their advisors. It was also suggested that the student
responsibilities be printed in the Schedule of Classes.

6. Other - John Mortensen & Wade Oliver
There are two recent changes to the Advising and Transition Services (ATS)
website (www.usu.edu/ats). The first is a link was suggested by Vicki Allan
in the Computer Science Department. Under the link, "For Advisors," there
is a new link, "Advisor Announcements." The link will show selected recent
announcements that were sent to the ATS Advisor E-mail Distribution List.
This link will provide information to faculty and staff who choose not to be
on the e-mail list.

The second change is one of the links for the USU Transfer Guide. ATS
originally created its articulation web pages a few years ago, while waiting
for the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) to finish its articulation
website. The state has finally completed its 2-year to 4-year articulation
website. The ATS link now links to that site. USHE has not done anything
with 4-year to 4-year articulation, so ATS will continue to maintain its
current website. Advisors may also access course articulation information
on the 140 screen in SIS Plus.
