COURSES TAUGHT
 

Assistant Professor:
      Responsible for directing the undergraduate equine program. A new 4 year Equine Emphasis will be offered beginning fall 2007. Courses that Dr. Evans teaches include:

  • ADVS 2190 HORSE PRODUCTION
    2 credits
    Production practices in the selection, care and evaluation of horses. Survey of breeds, uses and characteristics, as well as equine behavior, health care, nutrition, reproduction anatomy and physiology. Prerequisite: ADVS 1110 (may be taken concurrently) or permission of instructor. (F).

  • ADVS 3910 EQUINE EVALUATION I
    2 credits
    This course focuses on horse evaluation practices. Students will learn to evaluate multiple breeds on conformation during in-hand classes. This course will allow students to gain the skills to discern among the positive and negative aspects of balance, structure, muscling, breed type and movement. In this course students will be introduced to note taking and oral reasons. Students are required to give oral reasons on classes judged. Students will learn and use correct terminology when giving oral reasons. (F)

  • ADVS 3910 EQUINE EVALUATION II
    2 credits
    This course focuses on horse evaluation practices. Students will learn to evaluate multiple breeds during performance events. This course will allow students to gain the skills to discern among the positive and negative aspects of evaluating horses in performance type classes. In this course students will be introduced to note taking and oral reasons. Students are required to give oral reasons on classes judged. Students will learn and use correct terminology when giving oral reasons. (Sp)

  • ADVS 5190 HORSE MANAGEMENT
    3 credits
    Lectures include breeding methods, teasing techniques, development of facilities, lameness detection, dental care and aging by teeth, diseases and vaccination programs, and internal parasites and de-worming programs.

  • ADVS 3910 WILD HORSE BEHAVIOR
    1 credit
    This week long course focuses on studying wild horse behavior in Utah. Students camp out with a wild herd monitoring their daily behavior. Journals are maintained along with video and digital pictures. (S)
