USU Alumni Spotlight - Rodney R. Anderson

Rodney R. Anderson

Rodney R. Anderson served Gunnison Valley for more than a decade as the justice court judge before retiring last year. Sadly, just a few months later, Judge Anderson would pass away at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer.

Born in Ephraim, Utah, Judge Anderson graduated from Gunnison Valley High School before attending Utah State University. His career began in education, where he worked as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent for the South Sanpete School District. In all, Judge Anderson’s career as an educator lasted more than 40 years.

Judge Anderson turned his attention to his community and served on the Gunnison City Council for two years before being elected mayor of Gunnison in 1982. He served as mayor for four years.

Judge Anderson is survived by his wife, Kathy, their son, Ryan, and three grandchildren.
