"How Hard is this Class?"

For each Quiz the class average is usually 12-15 points, a little higher for some, a little lower for others; the Extra Credit Quests average 17 points; Final Exam averages 60-70 points. These "objective" assessments tend to yield lower average scores than the Archaeology in the News report, where the majority of students earn 90% or better.

Fall Semester 2009, 36 (of 74 enrolled) students completed all assignments and earned 50+ discussion points: 23 got an A or A-, 9 got a B+/-, and 4 got a C, none got a lower grade. In other words, students who are diligent easily pass the course, most do very well.

The expected time commitment for a 3-credit class is 9-12 hours/week. When students were asked how much time they actually put in to the class, their response was:

More than 10 hours/week=7% of students
5-9 hours/week=34% of students
2-4 hours/week=34% of students
2 hours or less/week=24% students

Special Note for Summer Semester:

Be aware that in Summer we cover a full semester's worth of content in 8 weeks. The time commitment is therefore greater.
