Constitution of the Anthropology Club
 

Article I-Anthropology Club
 
Section 1: The official name of this organization shall be the Anthropology Club.

Section 2: The club shall operate as a nonprofit organization.

Section 3: The club shall abide by the applicable policies and procedures of ASUSU, and the Utah State
University Student Code.

Section 4: This organization shall exist for the following purposes:
A.     To provide a forum for speakers to make presentations to members on contemporary aspects of the anthropology discipline.
a)      Grants / proposal composition
b)      Undergraduate research opportunities
c)      Peer study sessions
d)      Student seminar on applying for graduate schools
e)      Informative lectures on fieldwork opportunities
f)        Employment possibilities
B.     To schedule field trips to provide direct hands-on learning and teaching experiences.
C.     To provide social activities and events for members and otherwise interested parties.  

Article II -Membership  

Section 1: Voting membership is open to all students of Utah State University.
A.     Membership is open to all students without regard to race, creed, color, sex, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation.
Section 2: Two-thirds of the membership must be registered students of Utah StateUniversity.
Section 3: In becoming a member, one must sign their name to the official Anthropology Club logbook.
Section 4: To maintain a membership, one must genuinely care about the subject of anthropology.

Article III - Officers  

Section 1: The officers of this club shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
A.     There will be floating positions (otherwise known as special committee heads), called upon as needed for the facilitation of special events. These positions are:
a)      Administrative Assistant
b)      Museum Liaison
c)      Co-Publicist
B.     All officers must be enrolled as students at Utah State University.
Section 2: The duties of the officers are outlined below:
A.     President: Preside over all meetings of the club and serve as chairperson of the executive committee. Act as official representation of the club at other meetings and events. Coordinate and organize committees for special events.
a)      If the President is unable to meet the terms of office, then the presidency is subject to recall and a new presidency will be voted in.
B.     Vice President: Preside at the meeting of the club and the executive co
mmittee in the absence of the president.
C.     Secretary: Record and maintain minutes of all meetings. Send emails and maintain the website etc. This position is generally tied to the Peer Advisor position as it facilitates access to computer lists and resources.
D.     Treasurer: Handle all financial transactions of the club. Maintain thorough and accurate records of transactions. Produce financial reports as required by the club.
E.     Publicist(s): Handle all of the club's promotional materials. Create flyers, put notices in the statesman and create posters and banners as necessary.


Section 3: Officers shall be elected during the first meeting of May and shall serve for a period of one year. Officers are elected by a plurality of the voting members present, providing that the qualifications for quorum are met. Officers can only be removed by impeachment. Acts definable as impeachment are: the failure to meet previously ascribed duties, the declaration of mutiny by the main body of the club, or if club members can demonstrate an excessive lack of faith in the officers.  

Article IV - Committees

Section 1: The standing committees of this club shall be:
A.     Executive Committee: Consist of the elected officers and chairpersons of all committees. Duties shall be setting meeting dates for the club, determining committee assignments, and to act on behalf of the club during the summer.
B.     Program Committee: Handles all planning and arrangements for guest speaker programs and field trips.
C.     Social committee: Handles all planning and arrangements for social events held by the club.
Section 2: Special committees may be established to carry out special assignments.  

Article V - Meetings

Section 1: The first meeting of every month is for social and/or instructive purposes. The remaining meetings are held weekly for administrative purposes. All meetings and events are open to the public.
Section 2:
Quorum shall consist of two-thirds of the presidency and those currently serving on special committees.
Section 3: Decisions are made by simple majority.
Section 4: Any anthropology club member can call a meeting for any reason.  

Article VI - Financial Matters  

Section 1: This club shall club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or otherwise, to its directors or membership except as payment for services rendered in the form of wages, salaries, or incentives.
Section 2: Should the organization dissolve, leaving residual assets, these funds shall be distributed back to any contributors.
Section 3: If any expenditures of funds are deemed questionable or inappropriate, then it must be put into a written proposal submitted to the Executive Committee for review. The initiatory body must be present at the following club meetings:
a)      The submission
b)      The discussion as a reading item
c)      The vote on the validity of the proposal  

Article VII -By-Laws  

Section 1: The provisions for any member of the club to introduce by-laws are as outlined below. The initiatory body shall prepare and propose by-laws for discussion as a reading item in any administrative club meeting. This motion will then become a voting item on the upcoming agenda.  

Article VII - Committees  

Section 1: Any Anthropology Club member can call for the formation of a committee. This action will be submitted in written form for the presidency to review. Following its review, it will be on the agenda as a discussion item one week after submission. Afterwards, it will become a voting item for the next calendar week.
Section 2: Voted by a simple majority.
