David Lancy realized in 1995 that the most exciting "classroom" to teach in would be in situ and he’s led anthropological tours since then on a regular basis.

Initially to Egypt (4 times in all), then branching out to Syria, Jordan and
Lebanon, Turkey, Central Asia, including, Ukbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Mexico
and, the most recent tour ranged through Southeastern Europe. The tours
focus on human and material culture including architecture, history,
religion, folk art, music and customs.
