Learn About Music and Culture at the USU Museum of Anthropology
In its ongoing Saturday activity series, the Utah State University Museum of Anthropology continues with an activity and lesson on music and culture. Activities at USU take place Saturday, Feb. 16.
USU students and members of the public are invited to the museum any time during the 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday hours. Guests can experience a guided tour of the museum and the exhibit “More than Meets the Ear: the Culture Behind the Music.” The exhibit explores music and culture in three distinct indigenous cultures: Australian Aborigines, Ugandans and groups around the Andes. The tour will be followed by an activity where guests can try various instruments found in the exhibit.
“Music is very important to culture,” said museum intern Kandice Newren.“It tells and explains people's history, it creates unity and it is used to teach people traditions.”
The USU Museum of Anthropology is on the USU campus in the south turret of the historic Old Main building, room 252. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot, south of the building. For more information on this event, call the museum at 435-797-7545.
