Anthropology Program Undergraduate Teaching Fellows Application Instructions : Returned completed form and job referral form to Dr. Glass-Coffin (Main 245E). Get Student Employment Job Referral Form from TSC 106. Ask for job posting #C318-07 (If you are out of state, you can receive the referral form by clicking here ). Your application will not be accepted without this form. Application Deadline: April 23th 2008. Position Description : The College of HASS will offer five undergraduate teaching assistantships for the 2008-2009 academic year to upper division Anthropology majors. Students who have declared a minor in anthropology may be considered, but preference will be given to majors. Additionally, some preference will be given to those who have specific plans to pursue graduate study in anthropology after graduation. The awards will carry a stipend of $1,500 each for the academic year as well as the opportunity to enroll for 3 college credits (HASS 4250 under Dr. Glass-Coffin) during Fall or Spring semester. The position requires a total time commitment of eight hours per week. Each of the five recipients will be expected to attend a half-day (9-1) workshop in late August, and will attend a seminar that meets monthly throughout the year (time and dates TBA). During Fall (or Spring) semester only, students register and receive 3 upper-division credits for this seminar. Duties of the Undergraduate Teaching Fellow (UGTF) vary according to the specific class and instructor to which the Teaching Fellow is assigned (students are typically assigned to classes like Anthropology 1010, 1020, 1030, 2100, and 3200). Duties usually require the UGTF to attend class, to hold regular office hours and exam review sessions, to arrange audiovisual presentations, to maintain the class gradebook, to grade assignments, and to help proctor exams. If you have done well in your classes, can demonstrate a good grasp of basic anthropology, are personable and willing to take great pains and care in helping your fellow students, and have the maturity to handle a position requiring great reliability and broad responsibility, we are looking for you! Anthropology Program Scholarships The Anthropology Program has two educational scholarships available for undergraduate Anthropology majors. These endowed scholarships were established by program benefactors to assist future generations of students in Anthropology. These are: The Gordon N. & Dolores M. Keller Scholarship $500 The Anthropology Scholarship $500 Through these awards, the Anthropology Program seeks to facilitate the educational attainment and professional development in anthropology of our undergraduate majors. Scholarships are awarded based on several criteria, including demonstrated academic merit, financial need, and active involvement of the student in the Anthroplogy Program. Scholarships are awarded annually in the spring semester for the following academic year. There is a single application process and all scholarship applications are entered into a pool to be considered for one or more of the awards. All applications should include the following: 1. Completed Anthropology Scholarship Form 2. Current academic transcript 3. Current copy of curriculum vita 4. Personal statement. This statement should focus on academic record, participation in Anthropology-related activities, and academic/professional goals. Only complete applications will be considered for awards. Anthropology Student Research Enhancement Fund (ASREF) Grants Grant purpose: Competitively awarded ASREF grants will fund primary student research (field or archival) and costs associated with presentation of such research at a professional conference. Fundable expenses include supplies needed to complete research or prepare a presentation and travel costs to conduct or present research (e.g., gasoline, plane fare, lodging). ASREF will not fund equipment purchases, unless the equipment will be retained by the Anthropology Program upon project completion. Applicant requirements

Maximum amount you may request: $500 Number of times you may apply: You may apply for an ASREF grant as many times as you wish; however, our grant fund is small. Faced with a choice between two equally good proposals, faculty will favor the one by a student researcher who has not been previously funded. Application deadlines: October 1*, February 1*, and April 1 (5:00 p.m.) *Note: You must meet one of these deadlines if you plan to use ASREF funding to match an URCO grant proposal in mid-October or mid-February.
