Why USU?
As high school seniors, you have received flyers from dozens of places. Why should you come to USU?
- The professors are incredible! I am continually amazed at the talent we have at USU. Our professors are internationally recognized both for teaching and research.
- Undergraduate education is a priority here. At some large universities, the focus is research. At such universities, your professor may be famous, but since you rarely see him in class and he has no time for undergraduates, it doesn't do you much good.
- USU is personal. Classes are small, especially at the upper division level. Even at the freshman level, our classes are smaller than many other major universities. As you are visiting campuses, observe the number of huge rooms on campus. When campuses have huge rooms, they have huge classes to fill them. At USU, we just don't have that many huge rooms.
- USU puts professors in front of the classroom. It is a rare occasion when a graduate student is placed in front of the classroom. At other universities, this is the norm.
- Professors are accessible. Because of the small classrooms, the professors will know who you are and you will feel comfortable wandering into their office to visit with them. At other major universities, you may feel like a number.
- USU is small enough that you matter, but not so small that it seems like a large high school. You get the full academic experience with access to courses and advice that you need to pursue your dream.
- Logan is a safe place. There are fun things do to and the students are great people. They have a love of life and a desire to learn. You will rub shoulders with great individuals.
- There is a good feeling here. Students help each other. Students are willing to help others succeed rather than hope another fails so that their grade will improve. Faculty, too, work to help students succeed rather than try to "weed them out". It is a nurturing environment.
- Tuition is low, housing is reasonable. USU is a bargain any way you look at it.
