Tour the Museum!

Elements of Art
4th grade & up
This tour, one-hour in length, teaches
the fundamentals of
Color, Line, Shape, Texture, and Value.
Learn—during this
interactive tour—how to look at
and talk about ceramics, paintings, sculptures and works on
paper. A hands-on activity allows participants to use new knowledge
of the Elements of Art, and follow-up ideas are provided to
extend the lesson in the classroom! |
 |
The Red Sculpture Project
5th grade
Students can explore three
dimensional materials—wood, metal and magnets—through
the eyes and artwork of several museum artists. Hands on activities
in the classroom and during the museum visit illustrate the
concepts discussed. This is targeted to fifth grade science
core curriculum.

History & Art
8th grade
“Speak to Me” through art
using color, line, shape, texture and value in a hands-on collaborative
in-classroom project. Specific artwork emphasizes the techniques
taught with the museum/anthropology museum part of the tour. |
Customized Programs FOR YOUR CURRICULEM
Are you interested in a specific medium (ceramics, painting, photography,
sculpture, etc.)? Are you seeking specific interdisciplinary links (history,
language arts, music)? We can develop programs based on core curriculum
to meet your specific needs!
Cross-Disciplinary Programs
Your students will have
a well-rounded look at cultural objects from a fine art (aesthetic) and
anthropological perspective to merge fine art and core
curricula! Tours can rotate through two of the three venues across campus: the Museum of Art, Special Collections and Archives, and the Anthropology Museum, to sample their unique collections and gain a greater understanding how these collections can provide important context to your curriculem topic.
