Dark Metropolis, Irving Norman's Social Surrealism
June 5 - October 6, 2007
Originating at the Crocker Art museum in Sacremento California, Dark Metropolis features an important
painting from the NEHMA's permanent collection, Blind Momentum,
by Irving Norman, 1960. This exhibition, curated by Scott A. Shields,
Ph.D., Chief Curator at the Crocker Art Museum, consists of approximately
25 large-scale paintings, by Norman along with 14 examples of the
artist’s works on paper, and it is accompanied by a 228-page
color catalogue.

Vignettes featuring new acquisitions from
the permanent collection, audio recordings, paintings, sculpture and
photographs that are combined with language from May Swenson’s
poems. Each vignette explores how visual objects inspired Swenson’s
writing and her relationship to the region.

Scott Grieger: Impersonations

During 1970, Scott Grieger created a series
of images that "impersonated” famous works of art. The
resulting photographs from his widely exhibited Impersonations series
show Grieger acting out some well known artists' work.

Painted Perceptions
of Cache Valley Canyons: Woody Shepherd
January - March 9, 2007
“Painted Perceptions of Cache
Valley Canyons,” a new exhibit opening at the museum, features
the work of USU art department faculty member Woody Shepherd.
The exhibition is comprised of 11 large paintings that measure 6 feet
by 6 feet and up to 8 feet by 11 feet, and were painted on site around
Cache Valley and off the beaten track. In such locations as Devil’s
Gate, Oxkiller Hollow, Beaver Basin and Sink Hollow, Shepherd takes
his large panels out to paint in the congested underbrush. see

Deadly
Sins/Measured Virtues Recent Work of Alice Leora Briggs
September 20 - December 9, 2006
Briggs' work is part of the contemporary
revival of figurative realism in American art. Combining art historical
references, medical illustrations, candid photographs and drawings,
Briggs uses a method of incising a material called clayboard with
India ink to create richly detailed drawings and mixed media installations.more info
