CERAMIC ARTIST KURT WEISER TO CONDUCT FREE WORKSHOPS AT USU

LOGAN — Kurt Weiser, noted ceramic artist and creator of the works featured in the exhibition “Eden Revisited: The Ceramic Art of Kurt Weiser,” travels to Logan for a series of activities, including a gallery talk and workshops at Utah State University.
“Eden Revisited: The Ceramic Art of Kurt Weiser” is on display until Dec. 21 at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum on USU’ campus.
Weiser arrives Thursday, Nov. 6, and is featured in a discussion about his work and the exhibition. Weiser’s talk is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the museum lobby (approximately 650 N. 1100 East, Logan).
Weiser conducts workshops Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in USU’s Art Department located in the Fine Arts Visual wing of the Chase Fine Arts Center. The workshops are free and open to the public. Space is limited to 30 participants each and it is anticipated that the workshops will fill quickly. Contact Dee Weeder at (435) 797-0163 for reservations.
“I was awestruck when viewing ‘Eden Revisited’ for the first time at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art,” said Dan Murphy, assistant professor of ceramics with USU’s Caine School of the Arts and the Art Department. “As I walked through the exhibition, Weiser’s soft ceramic forms and masterfully painted imagery immediately drew me in to examine the subtle details in the surfaces. The cross section of ceramics pieces selected by curator Peter Held captures the essence of Weiser’s work. The display is amazing, and all who attend will enjoy the exhibition by this compelling modern ceramicist.”
Weiser received a bachelor’s of fine arts degree in 1972 and his master’s of fine arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1976. From 1977 to 1988 he was resident director of the famed Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, located in Helena, Mont. He was honored as a Fellow of the American Craft Council in 2003.  His work can be found in the collections of Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Carnegie Institute, Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; National Museum of American Art and Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C., among others.
In addition to the works on display in “Eden Revisited,” the exhibition includes a full-color, hardbound catalogue available for purchase at the museum.
“Eden Revisited: The Ceramic Art of Kurt Weiser,” and Weiser’s visit to USU have been funded by a grant from the Windgate Charitable Foundation.
The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art is located on the USU campus at 650 N. 1100 East, Logan, Utah, 84322.
