About ASUSU

Associated Students of Utah State University (ASUSU) is an organization that enhances the quality of student life and acts as the liaison with University staff, faculty, and administration. In order to make this possible ASUSU is organized into three main bodies; Executive Council, Academic Senate and Student Activities Board (STAB).

Executive Council

The role of the ASUSU Executive Council is to enhance the quality of student life through: academics, activities, student concerns, public relations, service, athletics, clubs, and organizations, service and cultural events. The structure of the Executive Council, chaired by the Student Body President includes the following offices: Executive VP, Academic Senate President, Student Advocate VP, Athletics VP, Diversity & Organizations VP, Service VP, Programming VP, Public Relations Director (Ex officio), Graduate Studies VP and Senator Pro tempore. The duties and responsibilities of each council member are outlined in the individual office Charters.

The ASUSU Executive Council meets every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in TSC 336 to discuss issues and pass legislation. The two types of legislation considered by the Executive Council are Bills and Resolutions. Any action that the ASUSU had direct jurisdiction of is titled a bill. Any legislation that requires the approval of the university president, Board of Trustees or Board of Regents is titled a resolution. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings to voice their opinions and concerns.

Academic Senate

The role of the ASUSU Academic Senate is to enhance the quality of academic life for the students of ASUSU. This is accomplished through legislation initiated from both the Academic Senate as well as the Academic Representative Assembly and through direct advocation to University Administration, College Deans and College Administration. The Colleges of Agricultural, Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, Natural Resources, and Science are currently represented on the Academic Senate.

The ASUSU Academic Senate meets every Monday at 5:00 p.m. in TSC 336 to discuss current ASUSU Legislation, progress of senator's legislative priorities, constituent concerns and issues.

Student Activities Board (STAB)

The Student Activities Board is the group that makes college life so much fun! The members of this board, under the direction of the Programming VP, include the Activities Chair, Arts & Lectures Chair, and the Traditions Chair. These individuals, with the help of countless volunteers, are responsible for planning and executing most of our social programs and events which include but are not limited to Week of Welcome, Homecoming, the Howl, Movie Night, Robins Awards, and the Arts and Lectures series.

The Graduate Student Senate

The Graduate Student Senate is the voice of USU graduate students within ASUSU and works closely with the Academic Senate. The GSS hosts the Annual Graduate Student Intermountain Research Symposium, the Graduate Student Life Week during Fall semester, and holds meetings twice a month to discuss ways to make grad school better. Through the GSS office, grad students can purchase discounted copy cards for the USU copy centers and the library, as well as discounted Beaver Mountain ski passes during the winter. Each graduate student at USU has a GSS Department Representative and a GSS College Senator. If you don't know who your representatives are, find out at our website!
