House Rules for ASUSU Academic Senate 2006-2007

This set of rules will be the house rules for the Associated Students of Utah State University (ASUSU) Academic Senate (AS) for the 2006-2007 year. These are the rules the house will follow unless otherwise suspended by a majority vote of the ASUSU AS.

Rules for Academic Senate Meetings

  • Meetings shall be conducted using Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised.
  • All questions and comments will be directed through the Chair.
  • Only AS members may speak during 1st and 2nd Readings or Legislation.
  • A motion must be made to suspend the rules if advisors or anyone else wishes to speak about legislation.
  • When questions require an answer from the sponsor of a bill, the answer must be direct, and not a continued proponent speech.
  • A student who is a co-sponsor of a piece of legislation may speak during the allotted time for his/her bill or resolution.
  • During non-legislative items, any person present in the meeting may speak without suspending the rules as long as the Chair recognizes them.
  • Cell phone usage, including texting, will not be tolerated unless there is an emergency.
  • All meetings will begin on time. Punctuality and attendance are not only appreciated they are also mandatory.
  • Three unexcused absences will result in a reprimand (EC92-44) of the officer in question. An Ad-Hoc committee will be set up if needed to discuss the validity of the missed days.
  • All AS members will dress in business casual attire during official meetings, unless otherwise noted by Academic Senate President.
  • No food is allowed during AS meetings.
