MESA After-School Program visits USU Aviation

MESA USA's Mission

"MESA prepares and motivates educationally disadvantaged students, with an emphasis, as allowed by law, on those from groups with traditionally low eligibility for higher education, to successfully pursue college-preparatory and undergraduate education in math and science-based fields. MESA also emphasizes participation, by students historically under-represented in the mathematics and science disciplines at the university level."

Alicia Moser is the Main Advisor of MESA at Willow Valley and Summer Bott Assistant Advisor. This is the first year for the MESA club at Willow Valley Middle School. There are currently 70 students enrolled in the Willow Valley MESA program.

MESA was founded in California in 1970 by an Oakland high school mathematics teacher and a petroleum engineering professor from the UC Berkeley campus. MESA stands for Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement. MESA now serves nearly 40,000 students nationwide in elementary, middle, and high school and at the university and community college level. MESA is a program that provides activities designed to motivate under served ethnic minority and all female students. MESA has been recognized by the U.S. congress, National Science Foundation and the U.S. department of Education.
