Best Practices Topics for 2006-2007

Service Topics:

1) Sustained and recognized service to the university community and/or civic community.

Required for participation:  Your chapter has been involved in a service project (other than VITA) to your campus or to the surrounding community for more than one year and has been recognized for your efforts by either your university administration or by community/civic leadership.

Presentation requirements:  See Best Practices guidelines.  Within the constraints of the presentation guidelines, present: (1) information about your project and how your chapter has implemented this service; (2) the recognition that has been afforded your chapter for the service; and (3) how other BAP chapters could emulate your efforts within their chapter.

Not allowed:  Since BAP has a separate VITA recognition program with the IRS, this service project is not eligible for this category.

OR

2) Corporate Social Responsibility

Goal: To Increase awareness about the meaning and importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Required for participation:  Conduct research on corporate social responsibility and select a organization(s) that has a CSR report or position.   Educate students and/or the community on your CSR findings.   Challenge the report’s impact (if any) on the environment, the organizations bottom line and link to the organization’s strategy.

Presentation requirements:  See Best Practices guidelines.  Within the constraints of the presentation guidelines, present: (1) What the chapter learned (2) Describe how the Chapter increased awareness of CSR and (3) The impact CSR is having (or not) on the financial environment or environment at large.

Need help: There is a European organization committed to CSR and there website is: http://www.csreurope.org .   Also, Chiquita is an example of an organization that has a CSR report.

Involvement in Professional Organizations

Goal:  Educate /encourage / promote members and alumni to join and become involved with professional organizations. (e.g. state societies, women’s societies, FEI, etc).

Presentation requirements:  See Best Practices guidelines.  Within the constraints of the presentation guidelines, present: (1) Design and implement a plan to raise awareness, increase membership and participation within professional organizations (2) Discuss impact made by chapter or alumni.
