USU Farmers Market

Special Event

This fall, Utah State University will be bring back the Student Farmer's Market! Farmer’s markets epitomize sustainability by bringing community members together to purchase locally grown, healthier food, crafts and other products. The market features live local musicians in addition to local businesses and student organizations. One of the primary benefits to USU's 28,000+ students will be the 'double your dollars' program, allowing students to double their money in dollar increments up to $5, receiving two $1 tokens for each dollar exchanged. Tokens will be purchased at the entrance booth. The tokens may only be used in the market towards produce purchases. The USU Farmer's Market was initiated by the Blue Goes Green grant program.

Dr. Karen Lang “The Buddha’s Daughters: Women’s roles in Buddhism.” The CWG and Religious Studies are Cosponsoring a Brown Bag Lunch with Dr. Karen Lang. Dr. Lang is a Professor of Buddhist Studies and Indian Religions, as well as the Director of the Center of South Asian Studies at the University of Virginia. Author and activist Sarah Gailey: Reading and Discussion

Lecture/Readings

Speculative fiction author and social critic Sarah Gailey will read from her recent books and answer questions about her work. In her first year of eligibility, Gailey was nominated for a Hugo Award for her critique and celebration of the women of Harry Potter, in a category alongside legendary fiction writer Neil Gaiman and the late Carrie Fisher. Her “River of Teeth” novellas — a duology that follows a group of hippopotamus wranglers on a blood-soaked journey down the Mississippi River — was published this year and was an Amazon best-seller. The duology’s characters, described by NPR as “a cross-dressing conwoman, an agender demolitions expert, a heavily pregnant assassin, a queer British-Korean cowboy and a lovesick sharp-shooter” are part of “a wonderfully original debut, guaranteed to cast long, sinister shadows over beloved family board games for years to come.”
