Deans' Seminar: Rethinking Science Communication

Lecture/Readings

Kevin Folta, a professor of horticultural sciences at the University of Florida and internationally recognized science communicator will present at Utah State University about how one can communicate that science may help farmers, industrialized world consumers, the environment and the developing world. The presentation, open to all USU faculty, students, and the public.
Folta is recognized for his science communication efforts, speaking with public audiences, as well as training scientists and agricultural producers to be better communicators. In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious CAST Borlaug Award in Agricultural Communications and was named as the Ag Pro Person of the Year.
The seminar is hosted by dean's of USU's College of Agricultural and Applied Sciences, College of Science, and the Quinney College of Natural Resources

Lunch with Latinx Leaders

The Latinx Cultural Center (LCC) is hosting a series of bring-your-own-lunch events that are designed to let the USU community get to know their Latinx faculty, administrators, and staff in a substantive way. Lunch with Latinx Leaders presentation is this Wednesday, February 27th from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm in Merrill-Cazier Library, Room 208 (drinks and light snacks will be provided, feel free to bring your lunch). The speaker for this event is Ketzel Morales. She is an Intern at the Access and Diversity Center and
President of the Latinx Student Union. Ketzel will be speaking about her journey as a student trying to navigate the higher education system and the adversity that she has to face as a Latina. The way in which she has pushed outside her comfort zone to help out her community. This event is open to one and all. We hope to see you there!

Snowshoe Tour of the Preserve

Recreation

Join us for a nature walk on the Preserve! During this tour, you will learn about the history and ecology of the Preserve as well as what kinds of plants and animals you will find on the Swaner Preserve. Additionally, you will have time to search for and identify animal tracks and other signs of wildlife. This outing is appropriate for all ages and will take place on generally flat terrain with a slight uphill grade.

Snowshoes can be rented from the EcoCenter if needed - $2.50 for members, $5 for non-members
