This MFA Exhibition by Heidi Bruner features nude images in a photography exhibit, held in Gallery 102 of the Chase Fine Arts Center on the USU's campus. A closing reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m. in Gallery 102. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Hollow Bones explores the connection between women and birds, going beyond the typical associations people have with femininity and birds. The exhibit features USU alumni Michelle Larsen, Holly Cobb and Lisie Beck Brundage. This exhibit is in the Tippetts Exhibit Hall and is free and open to the public.

Exhibit / Caine College of the Arts

This exhibit features nine recently acquired pieces of avant-garde, contemporary art that have never been displayed in the museum before. These artworks came to the museum from the late Joe Austin who died in March this year at the age of 74. This exhibit shows some of the art from Mr. Austin's personal collection from his Los Angeles homes, and it will be on display through December 10, 2013. Please note that the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

This selection of artwork from the museum's permanent collection embraces a diverse range of forms and showcases work by important women artists from the 1970s and 1980s. Much of the artwork displayed in the exhibit addresses issues of womanhood, femininity, and equality through experimentation in total abstraction, representations of the female body, and examples of pattern or decoration. Highlights include posters by the Guerilla Girls, an installation piece by Ilene Segalove, photography from the second wave of feminism, and abstract minimalism. Please note that the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art will be closed in observance of holidays on Nov. 28 & 29, Dec. 25, Jan. 1 & 20, 2014, and Feb. 17.

This selection of 22 woodcuts is displayed in the museum’s Study Center gallery and shows a wide array of techniques within this printmaking method. The prints feature traditional landscapes, abstracted nature forms, intricate Asian designs, and sharp patterns of black and white. Some of the artists featured included Paul Landacre, Karen Kunc, Marion Hyde and Werner Drewes. Each of the prints is displayed horizontally in a chest of large, industrial, glass and metal drawers allowing viewers to closely examine each piece.

USU's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hosts the 10th annual Hansen Seminar Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. in ESLC 046. Featured speaker is Stephen Kowalczykowski, Distinguished Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Davis. He presents, "Visual Biochemistry: Understanding Biology and Mechanism, One Molecule at a Time." Dr. Kowalczykowski's talk is free and open to all.

We would like to invite you to our "The Gift of Thanksgiving" activity on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. in AGRS 137. We will be having a Thanksgiving feast with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, Maddox rolls, homemade root beer and lots of other great food! There will be plenty of food so bring your friends! It is a pot luck so please bring desserts, salads, casseroles, soda, treats, whatever you would like to share. During the dinner we will also be making stocking hygiene kits for CAPSA, the women's shelter in the valley. Please come help us serve this organization and enjoy our own Thanksgiving dinner!

We will be hearing from Trace and Mary Ann Skeen on the harmful effects of pornography and human trafficking. There will also be time for question and answer at the end of the presentation. Mary Ann Skeen has been an activist in the anti-pornography movement for the past several years and has been actively involved in awareness campaigns relative to internet-based addictive avoidance. Trace Skeen is a retired international health care executive and has consulted with NGO’s in SE Asia relative to eliminating human trafficking and is locally involved in pornography abatement programs in addition to providing counseling to young adults with pornography and sexual addiction behaviors. This event is free to anyone and cookies will be provided afterwards.
