"Ideas" an exhibition is the result of a collaborative project between the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art and professor Rachel Middleman's art history class. The students explored the history and ideas of conceptual art while learning about specific pieces of conceptual art in the museum's collection. This resulted in a student-curated art exhibit, free and open to the public. The opening reception is Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.

This is the second session of a two-part workshop. Participants will benefit most from attending both parts of the workshop, but feel free to attend either session. Lasting Relationships: Guidelines for Building Better Connections with the Ones You Love – 2 Sessions -- This two-part workshop is for individuals and couples who are interested in learning new ways to build more satisfying relationships and strengthen communication skills. We will cover the following topics: personal rights in relationships; parameters of healthy relationships; principles for maintaining long-lasting relationships; effective communication; and tips on fighting fair. The annual spring BFA exhibition is here for students who are earning their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree to exhibit their work. This exhibit will feature the work of Lauren Williams, Brandon Christensen, Tiffany Torrey and Myles Howell. A reception will be held Friday, March 22, at 5 p.m. The exhibit and reception are both free and open to the public.

10:00 am - 5:00 pm    LUX: Light and Space Art from the Museum's Collection

This exhibit includes 17 paintings, photographs, and sculptures from the museum's collection exploring how artists have used light as a medium or subject matter. Several large pieces focus on artists who are considered to be the leaders of the light and space art movement of the 1970s. The artists in this exhibit bring up philosophical issues about how the brain perceives the world, and these artworks expand the ideas of what materials are actually considered to be art. Seven new pieces are included in this exhibit which have never been on display in the museum before. At the same time, this work creates enchanting experiences of color, shadow, and shape that are sure to entertain all ages. The exhibit also includes one of the most significant artworks in the museum's collection: a Plexiglas disc installation by Robert Irwin.

Northern Utah-based photographer Chris Dunker presents 21 selections of his work in the exhibit, "Industrial Ethos." These loaned photographs address the culture of industry and how industry appears over time. Dunker's fascination with urban decay provides a dystopian look at the modern, optimistic attitude of industry and manufacturing that has marked the progress and historical significance of northern Utah. Also included in the exhibit are antique books and photographs from Dunker's personal collection that document some of the earliest industrial breakthroughs such as steam turbines and generators. Certain industries, local to Cache Valley and the northern Utah region, are featured in the exhibit, including ICON Health and Fitness, Thermo Fisher, Nucor Steel, and Sirtec Plastics.

Healthy Sexuality Workshop - 6 Sessions -- In this series of workshops, you will explore what healthy sexuality means for YOU: both the physical and the emotional. Students are welcome to attend just one workshop, a few, or all of them. People from all backgrounds, experience levels, and belief systems are welcome: currently partnered or not, sexually active, waiting for marriage, doesn't matter. If you want to know more about intimacy, and more about your own wants, needs, or boundaries or if you want to learn more about effectively communicating those wants, needs and boundaries to potential sexual partner(s),this workshop is for you! Join us for an hour of good food, good company, intellectual engagement, and a TimePiece by Dr. Leslie Brott. The TimePiece is titled "Truth Knows No Size." It will be held at Cafe Sabor. Leslie is the head of acting for the BFA acting training program in the Department of Theatre Arts. Before coming to Utah State she taught in the professional actor training programs at Southern Methodist University and the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana. She has spent 14 seasons with the Utah Shakespeare Festival as an actor. Leslie works not only as an actor, but as a director and vocal/text/dialect coach.
