This fundraiser is associated with Professor Herrmann's MGT-3110 for Group 14. This charity concert & raffle is benefiting Common Ground Outdoor Adventures a local, non-profit organization that assists disabled youth and adults with outdoor recreation. The event is April 12, 2013, from 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. at Legends Billiard Club (2707 South Hwy 89/91, Nibley, Utah) featuring live music by Erasmus. The door admission is $5 with 1 FREE raffle ticket. There are over $1,000.00 in raffle prizes.

"Ideas" an exhibition is the result of a collaborative project between the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art and professor Rachel Middleman's art history class. The students explored the history and ideas of conceptual art while learning about specific pieces of conceptual art in the museum's collection. This resulted in a student-curated art exhibit, free and open to the public. The opening reception is Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.

The USU Department of Art & Design Printmaking students are exhibiting the work of master printmakers representing every state of the United States in "East/West, a Survey of Contemporary Printmaking," free and open to the public. The exhibit is located in the Tippetts Exhibit Hall, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

10:00 am - 5:00 pm    LUX: Light and Space Art from the Museum's Collection

This exhibit includes 17 paintings, photographs, and sculptures from the museum's collection exploring how artists have used light as a medium or subject matter. Several large pieces focus on artists who are considered to be the leaders of the light and space art movement of the 1970s. The artists in this exhibit bring up philosophical issues about how the brain perceives the world, and these artworks expand the ideas of what materials are actually considered to be art. Seven new pieces are included in this exhibit which have never been on display in the museum before. At the same time, this work creates enchanting experiences of color, shadow, and shape that are sure to entertain all ages. The exhibit also includes one of the most significant artworks in the museum's collection: a Plexiglas disc installation by Robert Irwin.

Northern Utah-based photographer Chris Dunker presents 21 selections of his work in the exhibit, "Industrial Ethos." These loaned photographs address the culture of industry and how industry appears over time. Dunker's fascination with urban decay provides a dystopian look at the modern, optimistic attitude of industry and manufacturing that has marked the progress and historical significance of northern Utah. Also included in the exhibit are antique books and photographs from Dunker's personal collection that document some of the earliest industrial breakthroughs such as steam turbines and generators. Certain industries, local to Cache Valley and the northern Utah region, are featured in the exhibit, including ICON Health and Fitness, Thermo Fisher, Nucor Steel, and Sirtec Plastics.

The Joy of Depression - This workshop is designed to help participants understand the role of pain in signaling the need for change and encourages students to shift their focus from limitations to possibilities. The five dimensions of well being will be explored in concert with the value of mood states, even sadness. Participants will engage in “three good things” exercises and will explore the benefits of promoting well-being. Please call to reserve a seat, 797-1012.

The art museum will be hosting an open house event to showcase the newly remodeled lobby, and everyone is invited to attend. Visitors will see the installation of a new piece in the museum's collection called "Before Utah" created by an artificial intelligence computer program on a TV screen. This piece was acquired through the generous support of David and Terry Peak who will be honored at this event.
