This selection of artwork from the permanent collection embraces a diverse range of forms and showcases work by important women artists. Rather than representing a certain artistic style or focusing on specific subjects depicted by women, this exhibition features a variety of styles and subjects. Included are representations of the female form, critiques of the objectification of the female body, and experiments with total abstraction. Highlights include posters by the Guerilla Girls, an installation piece by Ilene Segalove, photography from the second wave of feminism and minimalist abstraction. This selection of artwork from the museum's permanent collection embraces a diverse range of forms and showcases work by important women artists from the 1970s and 1980s. Much of the artwork displayed in the exhibit addresses issues of womanhood, femininity, and equality through experimentation in total abstraction, representations of the female body, and examples of pattern or decoration. Highlights include posters by the Guerilla Girls, an installation piece by Ilene Segalove, photography from the second wave of feminism, and abstract minimalism. Please note that the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art will be closed in observance of holidays on Nov. 28 & 29, Dec. 25, Jan. 1 & 20, 2014, and Feb. 17.

Exhibit / Caine College of the Arts

This selection of 22 woodcuts is displayed in the museum’s Study Center gallery and shows a wide array of techniques within this printmaking method. The prints feature traditional landscapes, abstracted nature forms, intricate Asian designs, and sharp patterns of black and white. Some of the artists featured included Paul Landacre, Karen Kunc, Marion Hyde and Werner Drewes. Each of the prints is displayed horizontally in a chest of large, industrial, glass and metal drawers allowing viewers to closely examine each piece.

Financial Planning for Women (FPW) is a monthly educational seminar that meets the second Wednesday (except August and December) at two times: 11:30-12:30 p.m. in the USU Taggart Student Center room 336 (Bring a lunch), and at 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Family Life Center, 493 North 700 East, Logan (at bottom of Old Main Hill). Join us on Wednesday January 8th to learn about easy diversified investment portfolios with Dr. Craig Israelsen; developer of 7 Twelve portfolio. Programs are free and registration is not required.

6:00 pm - 7:30 pm    Know Before You Go: Avalanche Awareness Talk

This multi-media talk has an exciting 15-minute video on avalanches plus a 1/2 hr. PowerPoint on how to stay alive in avalanche terrain including snow stability, safe travel and rescue. This lecture will cover avalanche rescue, how avalanches work, reading avalanche terrain, obvious clues to instability, avalanche weather, safe travel practices and essential equipment. This talk is presented by the staff of the Utah Avalanche Center, who are some of the foremost avalanche experts in the country. The event is intended for both those who have little to no knowledge of avalanches as well as seasoned backcountry travelers who are interested in refreshing some basic avalanche knowledge.
