For Freedoms: Fifty States Exhibit

Since 2016, For Freedoms has produced exhibitions, town hall meetings, billboards and public art to spur greater participation in civic life.

This year, we launch The 50 State Initiative, a new phase of programming from September through December 2018 during the lead-up to the midterm elections. Building off of the existing artistic infrastructure in the United States, For Freedoms has developed a network of artists and institutional partners who will produce nationwide public art installations, exhibitions and local community dialogues in order to inject nuanced, artistic thinking into public discourse. Centered around the vital work of artists, we hope that these exhibitions and related projects will model how arts institutions can become civic forums for action and discussion of values, place, and patriotism.

Turn your fear into FASCINATION!

Explore the largest arachnid exhibit in the United States and discover the connections between arachnids and literature, art, folklore, paleontology, science, and history. The Art and Science of Arachnids features 100 live arachnids and exciting hands-on activities, experiments, and play. During its time at the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter, this exhibit will be available to read and listen to in both Spanish and English!

Test Like a Pro

Workshop/Training

Is it possible to do better on tests just by the way you approach the questions? Common sense and critical thinking are key strategies. Learn how to read the questions, make a testing strategy, and how to remember more. This workshop is hosted by the Academic Success Center and the Testing Center.

Group meditation

Meeting

Utah State University's mediation club meets Thursdays on the third floor of the Aggie Recreation Center (ARC) for group mediation from 1:30-2:30PM*. All are welcome.

The club does not meet on USU holidays (e.g. November 22). On September 27th, the meditation club will meet on the quad near the Geology building to conduct a walking meditation.

Mike Miller: NuScale

Conference/Seminar

Mike Miller is the manager of the Carbon Free Power Project for the new company NuScale. NuScale is a nuclear power company who is building one of their state-of-the-art SMR (Small Modular Reactor) facilities in Idaho which will provide carbon free power to multiple cities across the state of Utah.

Communitas Lecture Series: Rania Matar

Rania Matar was born and raised in Lebanon and moved to the U.S. in 1984. Originally trained as an architect at the American University of Beirut and at Cornell University, she studied photography at the New England School of Photography and the Maine Photographic Workshops. Matar started teaching photography in 2009 and offered summer photography workshops to teenage girls in Lebanon's Palestinian refugee camps with the assistance of non-governmental organizations. She now teaches Personal Documentary Photography, and Portrait and Identity at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and regularly offers talks, class visits and lectures at museums, galleries, schools and colleges in the US and abroad.
