Patrick Dougherty Art Installation


The USU Dept. of Art + Design in collaboration with the Caine College of the Arts is seeking volunteers to hel artist Patrick Dougherty build a willow sculpture on the USU campus. No specific skills are required other than enthusiasm, physical stamina, and the ability to follow instructions. Building takes place 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Pre-register at

Music Scholars: Elizabeth West Marvin


Elizabeth West Marvin is Professor of Music Theory at the Eastman School of Music and Chair of the Music Theory Department. She holds a secondary appointment in the University of Rochester’s Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department. At Eastman, Marvin previously served as Dean of Academic Affairs (2000-2004) and as chair (1996-2000), during which time she oversaw major curricular changes in both the undergraduate and graduate theory curricula. Until 2005 she held an affiliate appointment in Eastman’s voice department, where she earned a Performer’s Certificate in Voice while a student. She continues to perform actively in the Rochester area.

USU Observatory Public Night


The Utah State University Observatory opens its doors to the public Friday, Sept. 7. All are invited to view Cache Valley’s night sky from the observatory telescope from 8:30-10:30 p.m. All ages are welcome and admission is free. IMPORTANT NOTE: Prior to arrival, please visit the USU Observatory website for updates at, as the gathering will be cancelled in the event of cloudy or inclement weather.
