Biological Engineering Seminar Series

Conference/Seminar

The BE Department's Seminar Series Speaker, Mr. Issa Hamud, Director of Logan City Environmental Department, will present: "The Financial Impacts of New Nutrient Removal Regulations to Logan City Citizens".

December 2nd at 11:30 in ENGR 326

Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act directs the states to list impaired water bodies and develop Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for these water bodies to restore the water quality of the listed water bodies. Under Section 303(d) of the CWA, Cutler Reservoir and the Middle Bear River have been identified as water quality limited due to low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and excess phosphorus loading to the river and reservoir from the surrounding watershed.

The state of Utah conducted a TMDL study which was completed and approved in 2010. The study required that the City of Logan wastewater treatment system reduce phosphorous discharge by 62% in the summer and 48% in winter. This presentation will highlight the planning process, project cost, impact on the affected households in the service area, and the expected outcome.

A meet and greet with Mr. Hamud will be held immediately following the seminar in ENGR 326.

Faith Distress Support Group

Student Activities

This group is an opportunity to get together in a safe environment and learn from and support each other. Each week, we will discuss pertinent issues related to faith that create stress (e.g., having faith doubts or internal conflict with elements of your faith, clarifying your spiritual identity, stresses associated with faith transitions, finding a spiritual place of belonging, talking to those of different faiths, etc.). The topic is motivated by those who participate that day. The group is facilitated by Monique Frazier, a psychologist from USU Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).
