Legal Rights and Responsibilities of Professional K-12 Public School Teachers

Saturday, Aug 01 - 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Merrill-Cazier Library - Map it
Room: 154
All education students and faculty are welcome to come hear Jim Cangelosi speak on the legal rights and responsibilities of educators. The literature review and research Jim Cangelosi conducted in preparation for authoring the book "Evaluating Classroom Instruction" (New York: Longman/Addison Wesley (1990)) familiarized him with the legal rights and responsibilities of professional teachers. With the subsequent publication of the book, he was frequently called upon to serve as “expert witness” and then later as hearing officer for judicial proceedings involving the firing of teachers by their school districts. Jim will discuss lessons learned from his research and his judicial-related experiences. The focus will be on how teachers should equip themselves with the knowledge necessary to protect the security of their faculty positions.
