Swift Water Rescue REC-1
Information/Orientation
This course is primarily designed for those wishing to gain experience around moving water. This course is framed around participant desires for training and taking beginner and novice students through the process of risk management and decision making in a swift water setting. Although this course does meet the SSI standards for certification, because of the format students will only be able to achieve a 2 year certification and all recreation based students will receive a Verification of Training for the Recreational Boater with no expiration. Guides and other water professionals need to push themselves towards the PRO-I and achieve up to a 3 year certification, but can option into this course in order to receive training if nothing else is available. This may also be used as a recert module for those that cannot get into a PRO-I or a PRO-II (Cert/Recert length does not exceed 2 yrs in this class). This class is tempered for recreational enthusiasts with varied experience levels. We can discuss several different topics of importance to private boaters, and all knowledge gained in this class is positive.

is a humanitarian and peace activist who has spent more than 25 years restoring agriculture in former conflict zones. She joins us to challenge USU students, faculty, and administrators to engage in the work of improving food security for all people. This is a professional level swift water rescue course designed for those requiring certification as a term of employment in a professional capacity; this course teaches rescue techniques with regard to limited resources in a variety of river settings. This 2 day, 18 hr course (with online training) meets the needs of professional river guides as well as USFS, NPS, Search and Rescue teams, Field Biologists, and BLM employees. Additionally, this course is open to recreational river users wishing to train on the PRO track and have access to the PRO-II course not accessible through the REC track. Course focus is on personal safety, decision making, risk management, and complex problem solving with other team members having limited rescue resources and communication with outside parties. This course is designed to meet varying student skill levels, and everyone from professional guides to seasonal contractors will benefit from the rescue techniques and concepts covered in this course. Self rescue and hazard avoidance and recognition are key components in this swiftwater course. This course is instructed by Swiftwater Safety Institute (SSI) in partnership with USU Outdoor Programs.

Utahns’ Perceptions of the Challenges Facing Women and Girls
Panel Discussion/Presentation
During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline of public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes around challenges facing Utah women and girls. The 80-question survey provided baseline data needed by leaders of A Bolder Way Forward (BWF) and all Utahns interested in helping ensure that Utah girls and women better thrive. This webinar will highlight many of the results. The survey focused on the following areas: education (finance, higher education attainment, and K-12 initiatives); community engagement (political representation, boards and commissions, and civic engagement/ advocacy); safety and security (child sexual abuse, domestic violence, poverty and homelessness, sexual assault, and sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination); health and wellbeing (health across the lifespan and home and family); and workplace (childcare/pre-K programs, entrepreneurship, gender pay gap, leadership development, organizational strategies and workplace culture, STEM fields, and workforce development).

Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Intersections of Practice: A Candid Conversation on Career Paths About the Lecture: What inspires you and drives your future career path? How does that inspired career intersect with your personal life? In this dialog, we’ll look at the differences between public and private sector practice in Landscape Architecture through a project-focused lens. Creasey will focus on providing transparent information and a wide variety of example projects to help new graduates make informed decisions about their future careers. Speaker Bio: Chris Creasey is a Landscape Architect with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District focused on large-scale interdisciplinary civil works and military projects throughout the Midwest and Mountain West. His practice includes work on tribal partnership lands bordering USACE managed waterways, interagency projects for NPS, Fish & Wildlife, and the Department of Energy, and stormwater management and master planning for seven military installations spanning five states. Chris began his career at Sasaki Associates in Boston where his practice included all phases of design, from planning to construction administration at a variety of scales.

Come spend a few hours rock climbing up in Logan Canyon. We will meet at the OP and drive up the canyon to experience some of the many climbs right in our campus backyard. This is a great opportunity to learn some of the routes in Logan Canyon or try climbing for the first time. No experience is necessary, beginners are welcome. Utah State Athletics Hall of Fame

A total of 129 individuals and three teams have now been inducted into the Utah State Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was founded in 1993 with 12 initial members, followed by eight members in 1994 and seven in 1995. The addition of any inductees was stopped until 2006, when five more individuals were added, followed by six recipients in 2007 and five in 2008, to go along with the first-ever team inducted. Seven more inductees were added in 2009, followed by six in 2010, five in 2011, plus two more national championship teams, eight in 2012, six inductees in 2013, 2014 and 2015, eight inductees in 2016 and 2017, and six more inductees in 2018 and 2020. Both the 2021 and 2022 classes consisted of four inductees each. In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the 2023 class was the first, 'all-female' induction class..

Join us on April 15, 22, and 20 at 7pm for the Horse Hippology Contest. Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members, by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive setting. The Hippology Contest has four (4) different phases: Examination, Station, Judging, and Team Problem 1. A team consists of no more than four (4) contestants. On teams consisting of four members, all will compete; however, the lowest score in each phase will be dropped. For those teams consisting of three members, all members' scores will count in determining individual and team awards. 2. Teams will be compete in their 4-H age divisions 3. Junior and Intermediate teams may be comprised of mixed 4-H ages. Mixed teams will compete in the division of their oldest member (3 juniors and 1 intermediate will be considered an intermediate team). Senior teams must only consist of senior aged youth for 4-H teams.

Denim Day

Denim Day is a campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement. As the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history, Denim Day asks community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.

This contest is open to youth in 3rd to 12th grade, at the county level and state level . All divisions: Junior (3rd-5th graders), Intermediate (6th- 8th graders) and Senior (9th- 12th graders) are based on Sept. 1 of the current 4-H year. Only Senior division youth can compete at the national level. We will be judging the sewing construction as well as modeling for the constructed/modified division on the state level. If the contest ends up being a virtual event, we will only judge the modeling and interview. At the national level they only judge the modeling and interview. National level only allows you to compete in one division. Youth can compete in 2 different divisions and will be judged separately. Those divisions are: Constructed/Modified - 50% of the score will be on sewing construction and 50% will be on modeling and interviews (if virtual, 100% will be on modeling and interview). Modified outfits must show at least 30% change in the construction/design. Purchased/Embellished - 100% will be on modeling and interviews All items in this division are purchased but can included upcycling/embellishing that include little or no sewing of the purchased item.

Merrill Bradshaw was one of the most celebrated Utah composers of the 20th Century. As professor of composition at Brigham Young University, he composed in all genres of classical music. His magnum opus, The Restoration, which premiered 50 years ago, is written for large symphonic chorus, chamber choir, solo vocal quartet, and symphony orchestra. It is considered the culmination of his life's work as a composer. For ages 8+.

Intellectual property protection was included in the US Constitution in 1789 because of its perceived importance in promoting economic prosperity for the new country. Intellectual property law has evolved since then, including provisions to promote the commercialization of federally funded research at universities. This presentation introduces several types of intellectual property, describes how patents generally promote investment in technology and product development and then looks specifically at the commercialization of university research.

The USU Student Association American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative Club is hosting a 1 mile, 5K, and 10K run/walk in conjunction with the iHelp Foundation. All proceeds go towards our health and education programming for communities in Uganda, Liberia, and Guatemala, as well as refugees and abuse victims in Cache Valley. Contestants will select a topic for their speech by randomly drawing three questions/statements from a pool of topics. They will select one question/statement and return the other two. A maximum of one minute will be allowed for this process. Topics will be relative to today’s youth and may include current events, 4‐H, and/or social issues. Examples of the type of topics include: a. If I were an author, I would write about… b. One issue facing teenagers today is… c. If I could describe my personality as a tree, which tree would I be… d. What has being involved in 4‐H taught me?
A Bolder Way Forward 2nd Annual Summit
Meeting
The 2nd Annual A Bolder Way Forward (BWF) Summit focuses on making Utah a place where more girls and women can thrive in any setting (e.g., home, workplace, congregation, and community). This movement, launched in June 2023, focuses on creating societal change in Utah.
This event, hosted at Zions Bank Technology Campus, will discuss the momentum that a BWF has created since June 2023 and will provide ample time for leaders of the18 “spoke” areas to meet with their respective teams. Areas include childcare/pre-K programs, child sexual abuse, domestic violence, entrepreneurship, finances, gender pay gap, health across the lifespan, higher education attainment, home and family, K-12 initiatives, leadership development, organizational strategies and workplace culture, political and civic engagement, poverty and homelessness, sexual assault, sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination, STEM fields, and workforce development.
Come and join us for this second annual gathering to learn more and become inspired to help create change for Utah women and girls.
