“Bringing War Home” and “Paint the Desert” Traveling Exhibits on Display at the USU Eastern Library & Learning Commons
Exhibition
The USU Eastern Library & Learning Commons will be hosting a traveling exhibit “Bringing War Home” August 10ththru September 30th. The exhibit features object stories of veterans and military families.
In addition to this exhibit will be a companion exhibit “Paint the Desert: Memory, Identity, and Commemoration on the T-Walls of the Global War on Terror” by A.J. Arriola.
Both exhibits will be available for viewing during LLC open hours: Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm. Beginning August 31, the LLC will be open Monday thru Thursday 8am-9pm, Friday 8am-5pm and Sundays 4pm-9pm.
The LLC would also like to extend an invitation for visitors to view the Carbon College WWII Memorial Roll, LLC room 108, that was dedicated in April 1946 in honor of the Carbon College students comprising of high school juniors and seniors and college freshmen and sophomores who lost their lives in the war.

In his viral cover story for The Atlantic, “Sucker: My Year as a Degenerate Gambler,” McKay Coppins embedded himself inside America’s sports-betting boom—and learned just how dangerous the industry can be.
In this lecture, Coppins brings that experience to life, blending personal narrative with reporting to examine how gambling apps are reshaping culture, exploiting behavioral psychology, and seeding institutional distrust. What begins as a funny, immersive story becomes a deeper look at addiction, attention, and the emerging “casino economy.” With particular relevance to college campuses, the lecture explores why young men are especially vulnerable—and how the runaway gambling industry could be reined in.

Seminar Series | Biological & Chemical Engineering
Workshop/Training
Decarbonization and electrification require new technologies that can efficiently interconvert electricity, fuels, and chemicals while operating across a wide range of scales and environments.
In this seminar, Dr. Chuancheng Duan will discuss recent efforts to develop electrochemical devices based on advanced ionic materials and catalytic interfaces for sustainable energy and chemical conversion. Topics will include solid oxide and protonic ceramic fuel cells and electrolyzers, reversible electrochemical energy conversion, electrochemical production of fuels and chemicals, and emerging applications in low-carbon industrial processes.
Particular emphasis will be placed on how materials design, interfacial chemistry, and device engineering can be integrated to improve efficiency, durability, and functionality. These examples illustrate how electrochemical technologies can provide versatile platforms for coupling renewable electricity with chemical manufacturing, energy storage, and decarbonization of difficult-to-electrify sectors.

Now a retired lawyer living in Nevada, Glade graduated from USU in 1971 with a major in Spanish and minors in Music, English, and German. He is a frequent visitor to USU and enjoys sharing with students and faculty the poetry that he has published over the years. He has written poems in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian, and he began writing poetry while at USU as a student.

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Logan Cemetary Clean Up (9/11 Day of Service)

COSAS is planning our first Day of Service to coincide with the Cache Valley Days of Service and Commemoration of 9/11. We need 10 volunteers to help clean up the Logan Cemetery. Supplies will be provided, and if you don't have work gloves, we have some you can borrow. We'll be bagging up pine cones and pine needles. If you think you'll get thirsty, bring a water bottle.

With people throughout our nation and around the world, Utah State University Aggies remember the lives lost and touched by the events of September 11, 2001. On the 25th anniversary of this tragedy, the Heravi Peace Institute joins with the USU Department of Public Safety, the USU Veterans Resource Office and the USU Center for Center for Community Engagement, along with other entities throughout campus and the community, to pause, remember, mourn, reflect and engage in service. Blood Battle 2026: USU vs WSU

The American Red Cross will be here all week for the 23rd annual Blood Battle when USU and Weber State go to head-to-head in gathering the most blood donations. Help USU retain the Blood Battle trophy by helping to fulfill our goal of donating 375 units in 4 days--remember that one unit of blood can save up to three lives! Can't donate? No problem! You can still help by volunteering at the check-in desk to greet donors and help to set them up for a comfortable donation with Red Cross professionals. 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Special Event
Join the USU Department of Public Safety for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, held this year on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks, in honor of the 2,977 lives lost and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Participants will climb in remembrance of those who were lost and in tribute to the courage, service, and sacrifice of the first responders who climbed to save others. Presented in collaboration with the USU Veterans Resource Office and the Logan City Fire Department. Registration opens at 5 p.m. The first 400 individuals to register will receive a T-shirt. Stair Climb begins at 6 p.m.

“Bringing War Home” and “Paint the Desert” Traveling Exhibits on Display at the USU Eastern Library & Learning Commons

The USU Eastern Library & Learning Commons will be hosting a traveling exhibit “Bringing War Home” August 10ththru September 30th. The exhibit features object stories of veterans and military families.
In addition to this exhibit will be a companion exhibit “Paint the Desert: Memory, Identity, and Commemoration on the T-Walls of the Global War on Terror” by A.J. Arriola.
Both exhibits will be available for viewing during LLC open hours: Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm. Beginning August 31, the LLC will be open Monday thru Thursday 8am-9pm, Friday 8am-5pm and Sundays 4pm-9pm.
The LLC would also like to extend an invitation for visitors to view the Carbon College WWII Memorial Roll, LLC room 108, that was dedicated in April 1946 in honor of the Carbon College students comprising of high school juniors and seniors and college freshmen and sophomores who lost their lives in the war.
Welcome Week Color Run

As part of our Welcome Week events, we're hosting our 3rd annual Color Run to cap everything off! This will once again be a 2-mile fun run starting at the ARC and ending on the Quad. The event is open to anyone but will cap at 200 spots. The race is $10 for students, $15 for faculty/staff, and $20 for community members. Registration includes attendance and a Color Run T-shirt and opens on August 15th.

Run the Runway 5K
Fundraiser
This race gives runners the unique opportunity of running on or next to one of the runways at the Logan-Cache airport. In addition, this race will provide funding for USU Aviation scholarships. You can also be a 'virtual' runner and donate any amount to the scholarship program and run where ever you are! Our goal is to raise s much as we can to fund multiple scholarships that will help our Aviation Students and find matching donors.
USU Combat Robotics Back-to-School Bot Bash

USU is hosting its second Back-to-School Bash, where builders from our club and the local community gather to start the school season off with a BANG! Celebrate a brand-new semester with the first dance presented by the USUSA Big Band Swing Dance Club! Come to the historic Elite Hall in Hyrum, Utah for vintage swing dancing! All skill levels welcome, instruction will be provided and people are available to help with a wide range of skill levels! There will be: - a Live Jazz Band - refreshments - a historic venue with a spring-loaded dance floor - and plenty of great vibes! Club personnel are willing to help throughout the whole event and provide individual instruction as best they can. There will also be a formal lesson taught from 7-7:30pm, after which the band will start playing and the dance floor will be open!
