Persistence, Patience and Compassion: An enterprise journalists's toolbox

Saturday, Aug 01 - 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Special Event
Agricultural Science Building - Map it
Room: Auditorium
Jessica Ravitz, former Salt Lake Tribube religion writer and now a reporter for CNN, will speak to students during a Morris Media and Society Lecture sponsored by the Journalism and Communications Department. As a CNN reporter, she gained exclusive access to Aesha Mohammadzai, the Afghan woman whose face - brutally disfigured by her Taliban husband and his family - was featured on the cover of TIME Magazine in 2010. Aesha's story, though, had not been told. Not fully. Not until Ravitz won the confidence of the maimed Afghan woman and her protectors. Ravitz has won the National Headliner Award for online-only writing. Her stories from the Gulf Coast and Alaska helped CNN win the Peabody Award for coverage of the BP oil disaster. Ravitz had earned recognition by the Religion Newswriters Association for her contribution to the CNN Belief Blog. For more information, call the JCOM department at 435-797-3292.
