The third of four bird tours on the Swaner Preserve in 2017! Tour will be led by Kenny Frisch, legendary Utah birder. Please be sure to wear hiking shoes or boots that can get wet, and be prepared for uneven soggy ground. We will provide binoculars for each attendee, or bring your own if you have a pair you prefer. Registration fee ($20 per person, $10 for Swaner Members) includes a waterproof Field Notes notebook for keeping track of your wildlife sightings. Registration is required to attend, and spots fill fast!

NDFS is looking for participants to taste frankfurter samples. We will recruit approximately 120 participants older than 18 years old. Pregnant women, people with food allergies, vegetarians, and people with any religious or cultural restrictions on pork consumption will be excluded from the test. Participants will be compensated with an ice cream coupon and each participant can do the sensory analysis just one time. The test will be between 5 and 10 min long. Participants will be then asked to taste six samples of frankfurters and asked to score how much they liked or disliked it in terms of appearance, color, aroma, flavor, juiciness, texture, and overall acceptance. Frankfurters contain inulin, carrageenan, and soybean oil. Participants can withdraw the test at any time. When: August 15th anytime between 9 am and 5 pm (or until we have recruited 120 people) Where: NDFS Department - Where the Aggie Creamery is (Room NFS209)

We are excited to announce the 4th annual Empowering Teaching Excellence Conference at Utah State University. This event will energize and inspire you as you begin the next teaching year. Presentations are faculty submitted, faculty led, and focused on teaching innovations that have worked well right here at USU. Topics and presenters span multiple disciplines and delivery formats. Invitees include all who teach at USU, regardless of role statement or campus, including graduate student instructors and teaching assistants. This conference is well attended, enjoyable, and comfortable.

Thursday, August 17 | 6:30 - 8 pm $5 or free for members Come take a short wetland walk out to the frog ponds where Swaner Staff and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources are managing the reintroduction of the Columbia Spotted Frog! Swaner staff will give attendees a tour of the project site and speak about the importance of wetland ecosystems as native wildlife habitat, as well as the Columbia Spotted Frog which is a Utah listed Sensitive Species. We will meet at the Swaner EcoCenter and then carpool to the Preserve entrance. Please wear boots or shoes that can get wet and bring a water bottle. Registration is required to attend, and spots fill fast!

This fall, Utah State University will be bring back the Student Farmer's Market! Farmer’s markets epitomize sustainability by bringing community members together to purchase locally grown, healthier food, crafts and other products. The market features live local musicians in addition to local businesses and student organizations. One of the primary benefits to USU's 28,000+ students will be the 'double your dollars' program, allowing students to double their money in dollar increments up to $5, receiving two $1 tokens for each dollar exchanged. Tokens will be purchased at the entrance booth. The tokens may only be used in the market towards produce purchases. The USU Farmer's Market was initiated by the Blue Goes Green grant program.
