The Tanner Talk Series: Breaking Barriers with Sylvia Mendez and panel

The Tanner Talk Series is proud to present "Breaking Barriers" with Sylvia Mendez. Mendez has been an advocate for civil rights and desegregation since she was 8 years old, when she and her family played a pivotal role in the landmark desegregation case of 1946 that prompted California to be the first state to integrate schools. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.

The panelists for this event include Professors Maria Cordero, Angela Diaz, and Marisela Martinez-Cola as well as Ketzel Morales (undergraduate student) and Kenia Carrera (graduate student).

The Cache Valley Community Writing Center and USU Writing Center present a free September Writing Workshop: "Humor? In Poetry?" with Nate Hardy. Workshop is 5:00-6:00 PM, free one-on-one writing tutoring available from 6:00-7:00 PM.

The Tanner Talk Series is proud to present "Breaking Barriers" with Sylvia Mendez. When she was 8 years old, Sylvia Mendez and her family played a pivotal role in the landmark desegregation case of 1946 that prompted California to be the first state to integrate schools. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.

In addition to Sylvia's lecture, there will also be the Mendez vs. Westminster Exhibit Opening in the Anthropology Museum in Old Main 252 on Thursday, September 19 from 9:00 - 10:15 AM.
