Exhibit / Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art

Black Mountain College: Shaping Craft + Design. This exhibition explores the impact of Black Mountain College on the fields of studio craft and design from the middle of the 20th century through today. Black Mountain College (1933-57) was an experimental liberal arts college located in rural North Carolina that still continues to be influential in visual, performing and literary arts. Exhibited works include ceramics, textiles, furniture, sculpture, paintings, printed material, and ephemera created by BMC students and faculty. 'Relational Forms: Robert Bliss & Anna Campbell Bliss' -- Relational Forms highlights furniture designed by Robert Bliss and the artwork of Anna Campbell Bliss, two of Utah’s most important creative minds. Residents of Salt Lake City since 1963, this is only the second time their work has been exhibited together. Beginning Sept. 1, NEHMA’s hours are as follows: Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Special Event / Research

We are going to have two peach taste tests on Tuesday (Aug 26) and Thursday (Aug 28). You'll be provided with slices of peaches, and you need to answer some questions based on your observation of the sample's smell and taste. After that, we'll give you a complimentary Aggie ice cream gift card ($2.50 value) which can be used to purchase any item in the Aggie ice cream store. Tell your family and friends to join this big event!! Time: start at 10:30 a.m. until we have 120 participants/daily. Location: NDFS building (The building where Aggie ice cream store is), Room 209. Those participating should be: over 18 years old, no food allergies, not pregnant.

Special Event / College of Humanities & Social Sciences

Come join us to celebrate the start of the school year with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the annual "Light on the Hill" ceremony. Whether you are learning the world’s languages and cultures, exploring answers to the great questions of why we do the things we do, investigating what motivates us to be good or how to communicate who we are and what we believe to others, you are a member of the college that studies people. You are part of a community of scholars. So come meet some of them — especially the weirdos. The twilight reception is an opportunity to kick off the school year with Dean John C. Allen, CHaSS faculty members, club organizers, and new and returning students who share a passion for knowledge found within the liberal arts. Meet-and-greet with light refreshments 7:30–8:00 p.m. The convocation will begin at 8 p.m. Amphitheater on Old Main Hill.

Saturday Nature Walk -- 10-11:30 a.m. Join us on your Saturday morning for a nature walk on the Preserve! During the tour, you'll learn about wetland science, native plant and animal species, the history of the Swaner Preserve. These tours take place on the generally flat terrain of the Swaner wetlands and are appropriate to anyone who is relatively active. Please come prepared for the outdoor conditions, sturdy boots or shoes (close-toed) are recommended along with a water bottle.
