Cross-Cultural Perspectives: Mining in the West

Saturday, Jul 07 - 10:00AM to 4:00PM

On Saturday, July 7, 2012, the Museum of Anthropology invites visitors to join it for an event entitled “Cross-Cultural Perspectives: Mining in the West.” Patrons will have the opportunity to view an award-winning documentary, “Los Mineros,” which tells the story of Mexican American copper miners and their struggle to shape the course of Arizona history during the 20th century. Informative posters focusing on the experiences of various cultural groups and their contributions to the development of mining in the West will be on display for viewing. Children can participate in a dig-box excavation for “gold,” learn about how mining in the West has changed over the course of the past century and a half, and listen to fun mining legends.
