Common Literature Convocation

Saturday, Aug 25 - 9:30AM to 11:00AM

Join the incoming students in the University Connections course by reading this year's Common Literature selection "The Beast in the Garden" by David Baron. The literature convocation on August 25 will feature author David Baron. This year's book is a well-researched examination of how residents of Boulder, Colorado handle the appearance of mountain lions in their city streets in the early 90s. It follows the thoughts and actions of community members and state officials as they try to coexist with lions and ultimately cope with the death of a young high school student who is killed by a lion while jogging. In examining the hard-to-define line between man and nature, the book touches on issues that are relevant in Cache Valley today. The book examines conflict, compromise, and the myth of wilderness.
