EC Seminar: Macroecology & Conservation Biogeography of the World's Birds

Wednesday, Jan 15 - 6:00PM to 7:00PM

Cagan Sekercioglu, assistant professor, Department of Biology, University of Utah, will be visiting Utah State and giving two lectures about his research. Excerpt from the abstract for Wednesday night's talk: "Birds are the best known major group of organism and provide critical ecological functions and ecosystem services. Global change, in particular climate change, habitat loss and introduced species are increasingly threatening new avian taxa that have been considered common and safe from extinction until recently. Bird declines will have further ecological consequences due to the consequent declines in bird ecosystem services such as seed dispersal, pollination, and predation. Macroecological assessments of the consequences of global change for world's non-avian taxa are urgently needed to guide the conservation of world's threatened biodiversity. "
