Banned Books Week Opening Reception & Panel Discussion
In conjunction with Banned Books Week, the Merrill-Cazier Library will feature an exhibit outlining notable books that have been challenged and banned through the centuries. Banned Books Week is an annual event held the last week in September. This year's exhibit runs from Sept. 27-Oct. 2. Along with the exhibit a panel discussion will be held and includes academic, public and children's librarians as well as representatives from the press and the ACLU of Utah. The panelists will discuss First Amendment Rights, censorship, the Patriot Act and banned and or challenged books. The discussion will also include reasons why free and open access to information is critical to a democracy.
