From the President
Over the 119 years of our history, Utah State University has experienced many events and accomplishments that are worthy of celebration. Today takes its place among the most significant. I believe that the journey we are beginning will be transformative in its long-term impact on the university. I believe we will look back on this as a time when, together, we took a bold and courageous step on the path toward building a university of excellence and distinction.
I remind us all that the money we will raise during this campaign is not an end in itself but will be, in the words of Stephen Trachtenberg, "redeemed only by how we use it." It will be redeemed as we use these funds to make sure that no one who desires and is qualified for a Utah State University education is denied that opportunity; it will be redeemed as we create opportunities both here in Logan and at our regional campuses for the most able and deserving students; it will be redeemed as we apply these funds to attract, support, and retain outstanding faculty; it will be redeemed as we create increased excellence in our athletic programs; and it will be redeemed as we build new facilities to house the classrooms, performance halls, and research laboratories where the discoveries that will change the quality of lives will be made.
As we begin this journey together, I emphasize that we are not asking you just to help us launch a campaign. We are asking you to help us build a great university, one that is nestled and protected in this beautiful mountain valley, but also one to which the world will increasingly look as a model of excellence and achievement.

The successes that characterize our history now serve as the foundation upon which we will build. In this spirit, I am asking you to join us in celebrating the founding of this great institution. And I am also asking that, together, we now take a next step forward as we commence Utah State University's first comprehensive campaign—a campaign to honor tradition and secure our future.
