Q: Is Utah State a varsity program?
No. USU is what we refer to as a Virtual Varsity club program. As a Virtual Varsity club team, our expectations of players are very high. In turn the amount of time the coaches, staff, and
volunteers put in for you is also high.
We expect our athletes to have the same level of dedication and motivation as an athlete on a varsity program.
Q: Does Utah State Lacrosse offer scholarships?
No.
Q: Can the team help me get admitted to Utah State University?
USU can offer no guarantees, but we will work with you in whatever way we can.
In the past we have helped prospective players make sure they meet deadlines for taking the ACT/SAT, contact registration and financial aid counselors, and know exactly what they need to do to get accepted by Utah State.
Q: What is the MCLA?
The Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) created in 1997 is a national organization of non-NCAA college lacrosse programs. The MCLA currently operates in the US and Canada with 213 teams in two divisions, across ten conferences. USU Lacrosse participates in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference.
Q: What is the RMLC conference?
The RMLC is made up of two divisions, USU competes in Division I with BYU, Utah, Colorado, Colorado State, Wyoming and New Mexico. The RMLC playoffs take place two weeks prior to the national tournament. Conference tournament winners get an automatic bid to the MCLA national championship tournament, which is usually held the 3rd week of May. Six
at-large bids go to the highest ranked teams that did not receive automatic bids, in the final regular-season poll.
Q: What do I have to do to be eligible to play?
MCLA players have four years of eligibility in college lacrosse. In order to play, you must be considered a full-time student which means maintaining at least 12 credit hours throughout the spring season. The MCLA conducts periodic eligibility checks to ensure that all players are eligible.
Q: How much will it cost to play?
Utah State Lacrosse dues are roughly $1,300 per player. This cost goes towards your team bag, uniform, helmet and gloves. USU dues are the lowest in the state for D1and D2 and among the lowest in the nation for MCLA D1 teams. This may seem like a lot, but to play on a high school traveling team you will spend over a grand just going to two tournaments. These funds go to operate an entire year of collegiate lacrosse in the toughest conference in the nation.
The funds will cover all travel costs excluding food and souvenir-type trinkets.
Q: What is expected of players?
Playing lacrosse at Utah State is no small task.
Practice in the fall will be Mon, Weds, Fri, from 4:30-7:30 and two strength training sessions a week. Starting at the end of October we start a six week strength, speed, and agility session. The regular season runs from the end of February through May. Due to the fact that the different University’s have graduation held at different times, it is possible you are going to be forced to choose between walking at graduation or playing for a conference championship. The standards we set at Utah State are high.
We demand a good attitude and a commitment from our players. We operate on 100% accountability.
