Employed at USU 1990

BS(1982) University of Science and Technology of China
MS(1985) University of Science and Technology of China
PhD(1990) University of Alaska Fairbanks

Research Interests:
– Space plasma physics
– Magnetohydrodynamics

Dr. Zhu's expertise lies in the areas of theoretical, modeling, and model-observation studies of the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, substorm and polar cap arc phenomena, high-latitude electrodynamics, space weather forecasting, field-aligned currents and Alfven waves, space plasma instability, and ground magnetic disturbances. With colleagues, he developed the USU time-dependent polar cap arc model, time-dependent M-I coupling model of substorms, and time-dependent ionospheric electrodynamic model. These models have been used in both national and international scientific collaborations.

Dr. Zhu has authored or co-authored more than 50 papers published in refereed scientific journals and given more than 40 presentations at national and international scientific meetings, including review paper and invited review talks. He has been convenor and chairman for various NSF/CEDAR workshops and AGU special sessions. He has been associate editor of Radio Science (1996, 1998) and regular referee for more than ten national and international scientific journals. Dr. Zhu is an associate of Committee of Space Research and a member of American Geophysical Union.
