The Game begins with the aestas of 44 BCE, i.e. the months following the assassination of Julius Caesar. Apollo/Diana will announce changes of seasons and make all decisions about how long a season or motus period lasts, though ideally each aestas/hiems lasts five minutes and each motus period one minute; see Appendix 1 for a suggested timetable. If there is a dispute between them, Apollo's will prevails during an aestas (and the preceding motus) and Diana's during a hiems (and the preceding motus).
Aestas (Summer Season)
Hiems (Winter Season)
If the numina agree, they may designate the year 37 as feriae ("holidays") during which there will be no activity in the Game.
Eight times in the course of the Game, Apollo/Diana may shorten a season by borrowing fulgur from Juppiter and advancing that season immediately to the next motus. Juppiter may or may not honor the request. Players may bribe Apollo/Diana to hurl fulgur. Apollo and Diana do not need each other's approval to hurl fulgur .
Instauratio (Change of Calendar)
If the Game is running long, Apollo/Diana in consultation with Juppiter may call for an instauratio ("a change of calendar") and remove an entire year or several years from the calendar in order to accelerate the Game towards the Battle of Actium.
Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.
