Seasons

The Game begins with the aestas of 44 BCE, i.e. the months following the assassination of Julius Caesar. Apollo/Diana will announce changes of seasons and make all decisions about how long a season or motus period lasts, though ideally each aestas/hiems lasts five minutes and each motus period one minute; see Appendix 1 for a suggested timetable. If there is a dispute between them, Apollo's will prevails during an aestas (and the preceding motus) and Diana's during a hiems (and the preceding motus).

Aestas (Summer Season)

  • Delectus (Recruiting): At the start of each aestas, individuals are encouraged to purchase classes and/or legiones of either sort from any numen who happens to be occupying the same provincia/regnum, at the costs stated here.
  • Proelia

Hiems (Winter Season)

  • Senatus Consultum (Rome)
  • Tributum (provincia/regnum)

Feriae (Intermission)

If the numina agree, they may designate the year 37 as feriae ("holidays") during which there will be no activity in the Game.

Fulgur (Lightning)

At any point during a season, Apollo/Diana may ask Juppiter to borrow his fulgur (up to eight times total) and bring a season to a halt, leading immediately to the next motus. Juppiter may or may not honor the request. Players may bribe Apollo/Diana to hurl fulgur. Apollo and Diana do not need each other's approval to hurl fulgur .

Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.
