USU 1010 University Connections Objectives

  • Help students identify and address the anxieties involved in the transition to university life and help them make the transition to USU a productive learning experience.
  • Create an environment that helps students establish friendship and support networks.
  • Introduce students to the expectations of Utah State and promote academic success.
  • Develop in students the desire and ability to be an "informed participant" in the educational process.
  • Broaden the educational experience by encouraging student involvement in co-curricular and service learning activities.
  • Share, discuss, and analyze a common reading experience that will enhance student's connection to the campus community.
  • Explore the Cache Valley community and opportunities for exploring personal and spiritual growth.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Navigate the university campus to find their fall classes.
  • Create a study schedule for the fall semester.
  • Apply study strategies from the areas of notetaking, test preparation, and textbook reading.
  • Understand the value of developing a working relationship with professors and instructors.
  • Identify, locate and access campus resources to support their academic success.
  • Recognize the value of attending campus events and participating in outside the classroom experiences (service learning, undergraduate research, clubs and organizations, student employment).
  • Know where to find information on campus events to attend that will complete the Aggie Passport Experience.
  • Understand the role and value of their relationship with their academic advisor.
  • Access the support system that was developed with their Connections instructor, peer mentor and classmates.
  • As a member of the USU community, be able to discuss and implement their role and responsibility to support the Aggie Think, Care, Act initiative.
  • Discuss how participating in the common reading experience helped them think critically and develop a connection with a new community of fellow learners.
  • Be oriented to the downtown and local community to access services and enriching experiences.
