Intern's Weekly Schedule

Within the framework of the periods of ebb and flow typical of work in a university counseling center, interns are expected to work an average of 40 hours a week. Approximately half of their time is spent providing direct clinical services to students. This includes a weekly intake interview and walk-in crisis time, 10 to 12 individual clients, co-leading a therapy group, and four 4 hours of assessment related activities. In addition, they are provided at least seven hours each week of supervision and/or training experience. This includes at least two hours per week of individual supervision and three hours a week of group supervision. Interns will also typically spend one to three hours per week depending on the semester, providing supervision (which includes providing individual supervision to doctoral practicum students and undergraduate REACH Peers, and co-leading practicum class or REACH Peer training). Interns also receive three hours a week to work on dissertation or other research. For interns with interest in program development and administration, time could be allocated for such activities. Opportunities for specialized training and experience in assessment are also readily available. Although the time spent in various activities varies from semester to semester, and even from week to week, a typical training schedule might appear as follows:
