RESEARCH: SUPER DWARF CULTIVAR STUDIES: PEPPER

BACK TO DWARF CROPS

  • General information on 'Triton' Pepper
CHARACTERISTICS  'Triton' is an excellent super-dwarf pepper cultivar for controlled environment research. It is 20-cm tall, flowers in 25 days, and produces large (5-8 cm long) fruit. We are continuing to characterize the unique growth and development responses of 'Triton'.  See Cultural Recommendations for more information.

ORIGIN  'Triton' was developed by the Dutch seed company Royal Sluis and released in 1978.  Royal Sluis no longer sells this pepper and no longer maintains a seed supply.  'Triton' was last sold in the U.S. in 1992 by Thompson and Morgan Seed Company.  There is no commercial source for this seed.

INITIAL EVALUATION OF DWARF PEPPERS  Prior to finding 'Triton' pepper we evaluated 16 pepper cultivars that were reported to be dwarf and early maturing. We evaluated these in a greenhouse study to find dwarf, high yielding, good tasting peppers.  For initial cultivar selection see:
