Marketing: BS, BA
Marketing is an interdisciplinary career path in business. A marketing degree can open many doors in a wide range of industries, including advertising, media, and sales activities. The modern marketer understands and influences buyer and seller behavior. Within the socio-economic and political environment, the marketer plans, prices, promotes, and distributes goods and services.
The marketing program is housed in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, the oldest business school west of the Mississippi. USU has offered business degrees since 1894 and has long held prestigious accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International and continues to be on the forefront of advanced business education.
Students will receive a BS by completing all required courses in their major. To receive a BA, students must also gain proficiency in one or more foreign languages.

Career Services provides counseling and information on hundreds of job and internship opportunities and even helps students apply and interview.
In addition to Utah State University’s admissions requirements, the Department of Management has additional requirements:
- Freshmen: Incoming freshman may be admitted directly if they have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher and a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Transfer Students: Transfer students from other institutions or students transferring from other USU majors may be admitted after they have earned 24 or more post-high school credits with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
- Students not meeting the above conditions can still to apply. Admission is competitive based on available space. Students must fill out an application (available online), have earned a minimum GPA of 2.75, and must have completed certain prerequisite courses.
International students have additional admissions requirements.
Professional Organizations, Honor Societies, and Clubs
Business Ambassadors: Business Ambassadors are the student representatives of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Each year a group of current students are selected to assist the Dean’s office with student recruitment, hosting events/tours, and managing social media.
Business Council (BC): The Business Council is the student council for the Huntsman School of Business. The mission of BC is to serve by representing the student voice, promoting student involvement, facilitating professional opportunities, encouraging academic excellence, and developing student leaders.
Entrepreneurship Club: The Entrepreneurship Club teaches skill sets for entrepreneurs to be successful. The club provides access to resources, teaches how to develop and refine business ideas, and assists in helping students build and launch a sustainable, successful company.
Huntsman Marketing Association (HMA): HMA members receive training in marketing and networking, while working on resume building skills. They will also have the opportunity to meet with executives one-on-one.
Phi Beta Lambda (PBL): PBL is a nonprofit educational association of students preparing for careers in business. PBL’s mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
ProSales: The Huntsman ProSales Program is a market-driven sales program that connects the best sales students at Utah State Universitywith many business executives, managers, and recruiters throughout the nation.
Shingo Institute Student Chapter: The Huntsman Shingo Institute Student Chapter provides students with experience and skills needed to get career placement before or upon graduation.
Society for Advancement of Ethical Leadership (SAEL): The Society for the Advancement of Ethical Leadership (SAEL) has been created to provide exciting hands-on and real-world ethical experiences to students. The society seeks to uphold the Huntsman School of Business pillar of ethical leadership. SAEL is a student-run club providing many opportunities for to get involved and challenge themselves with tough real world issues. We hold many activities and events throughout the year.
USU Distributive Education Clubs of America Chapter (DECA): Collegiate DECA develops leaders and prepares them for clubs in entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
Women in Business Association (WIBA): As a new organization on theUtah State University Campus, Women in Business Association represent women making a difference in business. This club is focused toward making essential networking contacts, recruiting and mentoring future women in business, and learning vital skills forthe business world.
Buehler Scholar Program: Start building your professional library through the Buehler Scholars. This program cultivates important leadership qualities through weekly readings and discussion based learning.
Career Exploration Trips: Not sure what your dream job is? No worries; our career trips will get you out in the field so you can talk with our professional partners and explore different industries.
Global Learning Experiences: Global Learning Experiences can help you develop a global mindset and prepare for business that extends beyond borders.
Huntsman Scholar Program (Honors Program): An honors program built for students seeking academic rigor, enhanced critical thinking, and a professionally mentored approach to their Huntsman experience.
Koch Scholar Leadership Program: Spend a semester reading and discussing the foundations of modern political economy with 15 peers selected in a highly competitive process.
Small Enterprise Education and Development (SEED): This is as real as it gets! SEED is an international consulting internship where students teach basic business and finance principles to local entrepreneurs in the Philippines and Peru.
Labs, Centers, Research
With the second oldest undergraduate research program in the nation, USU offers students a wide range of opportunities to gain hands-on research experience. USU’s Honors Program prepares students for excellent graduate programs by helping them build relationships with professors, participate in research projects, take smaller, more intensive classes, and develop leadership skills.
