What kind of documentation must a student provide?
Determining a student’s eligibility for accommodations must be done by the campus office designated with that responsibility, the DSO. Eligibility is based on a formal diagnostic assessment provided by properly credentialed professionals and is evaluated according to the institution’s guidelines. In Marc’s case, a report from his doctor verified his disability and described his functional limitations allowing him to become eligible for services. Faculty have neither the obligation nor the right to review a student’s medical documentation. If a student hands you his or her documentation, you should hand it back and inform the student that only the DSO can evaluate diagnostic information. previous next |
